The web has brought so much clarity to my diabetes time trial. This last week has solidified in my head how much knowledge it has given me. I had an e-mail conversation with a newly diagnosed type-1 and it re-surfaced all of the
thoughts and questions I had when I was first diagnosed.
-
What exactly is a honeymoon phase and why isn’t there a beautiful woman involved?
-
Can I indulge my endless burrito desires, and how much tomatillo green-chili salsa is too much for one man?
-
Will I need to take shots forever or is one of those dangly tube boxes in my future?
There was a mixed state of awareness when I was starting to learn what it took to manage a disease. My understanding landed somewhere between naively simplistic and painfully overwhelming. And in fact, it took more that the internet to conquer all that I know today (impossible you say — more than the internet?) I know. It is weird. But I had great help from a handful of books along with face-to-faces with my doctor. What holds true about the internet is that it has no ability to satiate the number of thoughts to be pondered. A new blog post or news article or online conversation will divulge great info, and at the same time bring on more questions. One could hyper link themselves into insanity with all there is to know.
Great resources like people, books, and the internet have paved my path to learning. Does this hold true on your end of the web-box? What do you know that you never thought you would need to?
