I find that dinner seems to throw my sugars off worse than anything! I guess I just can't help myself whenever it gets to be chow time. I LOVE ME SOME FOOD! It never fails; I'll go through the whole day and not have one high sugar and then BAM! Hyperglycemia CITY!

My eyes get way too big for my stomach!

Usually I'll come home after a long day, start raiding the cabinets and throwing random stuff together, next thing you know, I got a plate a nachos, some peanut butter cookies, and a Popsicle!

I know, I know, I am supposed to eat healthy all the time...or something like that. I don't want people to think that because I'm a trainer that I eat perfect every day! I'm only human!

And then the worst is when you finish and it feels like there's a 10-pound bag of junk food in your stomach. Also, is it just me or is "diabetic flatulence" the worse? I could elaborate more, but I'll just leave it at that! Ohh, but one more disgusting thing regarding diabetics and gas. Has anyone ever had a discussion about diabetic farts?! Ok, ok, sorry, I was just wondering. Surely I am not the only one? Maybe it's all that protein we (I) eat??

Ok, where was I? Oh yeah, hyperglycemia after dinner.

One thing that has helped me lately has been taking my insulin plenty early before I eat. For years I was on insulin that made me wait 30 minutes before I ate. Then I switched to fast acting insulin and taking my shot during or AFTER meals. Now, I am still on the same insulin, but I am back to taking my shot 15 minutes or so BEFORE. I have found that I have had better success with my BG if I give my body time to absorb the insulin.

Anyway, thanks for reading today. I going to go take a shot and try not to eat everything in the house! -Andy.

Dear Andy,
I also have the same problem. I have been stuggling to lose weight since forever, I was never aoverweight, but i was always obsessed by my figure. Now i have diabetes, and losing weight is becoming much harder, and now I am officially overweight! My BMI is 25.1
I have a horrible binge eating disorder, and resort to skipping insulin therapy to stop the weight gain, but only when i know that i am staying at home for the rest of the day. I cant spend my day out, with hyperglycemia coz i will have to drink big amounts of water and i will have to frequently use the toilets. I am fed up of all this. I know that if i control my diet, all my probmems will be solved, but i just cant. It is not that simple!

I truly hope this is not too offensive but - I received this shortly after reading your post.

If this story doesn't make you cry from laughing so hard, let me know and we'll send someone right over to check your pulse. This is a story about a couple who had been happily married for years. The only friction in their marriage was the husband's habit of farting loudly every morning when he awoke. The noise would wake his wife and the smell would make her eyes water and make her gasp for air.
Every morning she would plead with him to stop ripping them off because it was making her sick. He told her he couldn't stop it and that it was perfectly natural.
She told him to see a doctor; she was concerned that one day he would blow his guts out.
The years went by and he continued to rip them out! Then one Thanksgiving morning as she was preparing the turkey for dinner and he was upstairs sound asleep, she looked at the bowl where she had put the turkey innards and neck, gizzard, liver and all the spare parts and a malicious thought came to her. She took the bowl and went upstairs where her husband was sound asleep and, gently pulling back the bed covers, she pulled back the elastic waistband of his underpants and emptied the bowl of turkey guts into his shorts.
Some time later she heard her husband waken with his usual trumpeting which was followed by a blood curdling scream and the sound of frantic footsteps as he ran into the bathroom.
The wife could hardly control herself as she rolled on the floor laughing, tears in her eyes! After years of torture she reckoned she had got him back pretty good.
About twenty minutes later, her husband came downstairs in his bloodstained underpants with a look of horror on his face. She bit her lip as she asked him what was the matter.
He said, "Honey, you were right. All these years you have warned me and I didn't listen to you. "What do you mean?" asked his wife. "Well, you always told me that one day I would end up farting my guts out, and today it finally happened. But by the grace of God, some Vaseline, and these two fingers, I think I got most of them back in."

Dina1987, thank you for taking the time to read my story today. I hope that you can continue to make better strides towards being ok with your diabetes and weight. I look forward to hearing back from you again. Thanks, - Andy
