I’m going back to Dex. While I’m mostly OK with not wearing the Dexcom CGMS, I think I miss it a little.

Poor Dex has been collecting dust in a cabinet since February when I inserted my last sensor. Yes, my insurance company had finally decided to pay for the sensors, but I hadn’t reached my deductible yet and couldn’t afford the $500.

I’ve been thinking a lot about going back to Dexcom since my last endo appointment when I found out my A1C was 7.5 and I nearly fell out of my chair from shock. I’m meeting my endo again in 8 weeks and in addition to an improved A1C I’d like to be able to show her some charts and graphs from Dex.

So on a whim yesterday I decided to check my insurance company Web site to see if I had met my deductible. I was certain I had earlier this year but when I had tried to order sensors the medical supply company said I hadn’t met the deductible. I gave it some time thinking that I had just paid it and all the right channels hadn’t been notified yet. But Iafter what I considered a reasonable amount of time, everyone still thought I hadn't met the deductible yet. And then I gave up because I really thought I was doing OK without it.

But after ordering pump supplies a few months ago and NOT getting a bill for $500 (just $129) I thought maybe everything had finally gotten aligned.

It’s not really easy to understand insurance-speak, but looking at a statement online and comparing my information to that of the kids, it appeared that I had, in fact, met the deductible.

So I called the medical supply company and got the order in. Naturally, they’re on back order! I should only have to wait a week or so for the sensors to be delivered. I ordered just one box because I think I will do this intermittently to see if I can spot any patterns and to reacquaint myself with how my body reacts to certain foods. And if I decide that I need to do it on a more constant basis, at least I know I can do that.

I am having trouble with the pump...have been on it about 4 years or so....used to use the silloute, not trying the quick set....and having problems...I work out at the gym so the canula is bending....I am so frustrated, and the help line at mini med can only help so much....will go going to see a nurse at my dr office the end of the week but until then....cant figure out a site....my stomach is not working out so great and am using the auto inserter....got a rash... any advice..???

Hi Marly. You might try posting your question to the dLife forums. I suspect that your canula is not bending due to exercise. It's more likely that it's being inserted improperly and that's where the kink is coming from. Definitely post your question to the forum and ask lots of questions at your doctor's office. Good luck!
