At 3:30 I ran out the door with my Medtronic box in tow, on my way to meet my trainer for the CGM system I have been fighting for since November.
Needless to say I was both excited and a little nervous. The main concern I had was how painful or uncomfortable it was going to be. Sure I have had diabetes for 18 years which means thousands of finger pricks and needles but still, I am not a fan of pain.
I was happy to find out that I was going to be meeting with the person who trained me on my pump years ago at her parents place of business. When I got there we went into the conference room and unpacked all the stuff I was sent. She assured me that there was no one around so we would not be interrupted.
Immediately she broke into all of my stuff explaining everything but never treating or talking to me like a little kid. Something I appreciate. She could tell I read my manuals and did not spend time one things I knew already.
She rocked.
When the time came to insert the sensor I kind of froze. She said, “guys always freak out more then the girls do.” I laughed and still stood there with the needle aiming at a 60° angle towards my gut.
“I am a countdown guy. I need a countdown. Can you help me out?”
She cracked up but agreed.
“Alright, on three. One. Two. THREE!” Shlunk!
Done. I didn’t feel a thing. I know that this will not always be the case but you always want the first time to be the best right?
“Wow and you didn’t bleed,” that statement made me a little concerned which my face must have conveyed because she explained how to deal with that and to not freak out when it happens.
We talked a little longer about some tips that she had since she is a type 1 also and then I was on my way home.
Last night was a night spent between staring at the graph on my pump and watching basketball.
Both made me smile.

I'm so excited for you man!
