I press the button on the inserter and the sensor shoots into Charlie’s bruised butt.

He screams holy hell.

I pull the long needle out and blood fills the sensor and quickly saturates the outer edges of the tape.

Susanne compresses the area with a paper towel and shakes her head, giving me a look. Perhaps you know it.

Ben runs over to witness the carnage.

We shoo him away before he describes the scene to Charlie.

Charlie is inconsolable.

He’s never screamed like this before.

Blood is really pouring out.

I tell him to try to calm down.

He begs us to take it off.

We compress more to stop the bleeding and lift his pajama bottoms up and over the area.

He cries and cries and cries and cries.

I tell him again that he has to try to calm down.

"It hurts!" he cries.

I tell him it won’t hurt forever.

"Yes it will!" he screams.

I repeat again that the pain will go away.

Charlie gets right in my face, enraged, screaming at me in a voice I never knew he had.

"Yes it will!"

Ten minutes later, he limps over and says he’s sorry. I tell him I’m sorry too. We hug in the middle of the kitchen. I tell him I don’t know how much it hurts.

We take off the damn thing and put a Spongebob Squarepants Band-Aid on the wound.

He finds it in him to giggle.

"There’s a Band-Aid on my butt!"

As if I needed another reminder for why I’m walking tomorrow.

Can we please find a cure?

Carey we need a cure ....now. God's blessings to you ,Charlie and the whole fmaily as you go on the walk .. As for that Javelin MM sensor inserter, I use an ice cube to numb the area, and then insert. I have been told various reasons why it may or may not be a good idea, but I never have had any problems with the reliability of the sensor if i do not immediately start the sensor after insertion. I let it rest and soak for about 2 hours, then I turn it on. The pump will sread "wait two hours to meter bg," but since you have already done that, it will change to "meter bg now"in much less time than that, say 5-10 minutes. If you soak the sensor too long, it ill give inaccurate readings. I really have found that actually waintng to turn on the sensor,two-three hours after insertion works much better for snsor reliability. Can Charlie go that long without readings? I can, but then I am an adult who does this all on her own.

Again, I always numb the area with ice: that thing can hurt ( but not forever)

God Bless,

Brunetta

Poor baby...at least he giggles when he needs to. Time and time again I realize how amazing these kids are. They deserve a cure - it sucks beyond belief to have to hurt them to "heal"them. I never want to hear a kid say ouch over this f*&^ng disease again. We need a cure to stop this craziness. (forgive my language - I am mad a "d" right now - as always!)

Oh, Carey...I'm so sorry. Sometimes the dang things do hurt like holy crap...and it doesn't stop hurting. We must get next to a nerve or something. Isn't it amazing that one minute they are crying like crazy and the next they are laughing about having a bandaid on their butt? Their courage makes me want to work even harder for them. Walk Hard!!!!
Love, Mama Mousie....Revel with CGM...and no Sponge Bob bandaid... :-(

Oh, god, Carey. I'm so sorry....

I hope you'll read this - I wrote it long ago. But I believe truy - that you parents are warriors. And I hope you'll see how grateful Charlie will be that you went to war with him - for him.

And, yes, please. A cure. tonight?

Oh, Nicole! I can't stop crying after reading your link. They're tears of both pain and hope. I HATE when my 3yr old tells me I hurt her and there are days when I want to give up but I can't because I love my little girl so much. I hope that I can be as strong and loving for my little girl as your mom was for you. It also gives me a little more strength knowing that even though (right now) she thinks I'm doing it to be mean, down the road she'll understand and forgive the "owie pokes".

Question now becomes when do we go back for another crack at the sensor after that disaster. Talk about traumatized. As always, thanks guys for your spoortive comments.

Ugh, totally sucks. We've had a few bleeders but nothing as bad as that sounds. Seriously, we can put people on the moon but not make an insertion needle smaller?? So not fair that we're trying to do the best for them, yet sometimes it just feels like we're torturing them. Our kids are very brave, and deserve those fun bandaids on their butt!!

Totally agree, Kelly. this particular needle seems a tad archaic. Thanks again for not only your spoortive comments, but your supportive comments. im quiite the spellr.
