It’s been one of those days, the type of day where you just want to get some things off your chest (or mind). I wrote my last blog about television. I said some strong things; I got out some strong feelings. But they were heartfelt at the time, and looking back, I still feel strongly about what I said. TV sucks. It’s not natural. Their are a few things on occasion that are worth watching; sometimes you can catch something on that is educational or good for the soul. TV CAN be used as a good medium, or tool for our health. Sometimes, you see something you connect with or that gets you fired up, but in a good way. Tonight, for example, I watched a documentary on Netflix called, “Mario’s Story.”

Mario’s Story is about a man, who, like many before him and many people currently, serving prison time for crimes they have not committed. This man has spent years, ….let me say that again, THIS MAN HAS SPENT YEARS in prison, locked behind bars and barbed wire for a crime that he DID NOT commit.

How does that sit with you?

To me, it sits worse than just about anything.

We, other people I mean, just like you and I, were responsible for convicting him. Another PERSON, a human being, a creature just like you and me, ends peoples lives everyday. A “Judge." so we call it, goes through years of training to be able to do this….to sit up there, everyone in the room facing him or her, their eyes traced on theirs, to make the final decision…like a god. The last word.

Something is wrong with that I think. No amount of “training” should give another person the right to convict another – not even for the worst of crimes. And that goes for police officers, too.

NO person, or human being, should have the ability to end someone’s life by choice simply for the fact we ARE HUMAN, and WE MAKE ERRORS.

This blog is SO NOT about diabetes … or is it?

Maybe because I am who I am, which is to say – a person living with a “life threatening condition” - I have been “forced” to see these things like I do? Through that “microscope of life” or lens that we talk about seeing through - that others don’t - that causes me or us to have unique perspectives on life or living…

Maybe that’s a stretch … maybe not. Maybe I’m just who I am and these are just thoughts that course through my mind, like the blood in the veins of the other human being that I was talking about above.

This was a blog about life, about what I feel personally. Sometimes indulging in good conversation or sharing opinion’s or views, even if it’s completely off the subject, is good for the soul. What do you have to say about our justice system in place?

Thank you for reading. -Andy
