I have been MIA again for the past two weeks. The week before this one, I spent six days in Mexico with my mom enjoying some delicious food, soaking up the sun, and relaxing. It was much needed and much appreciated. This week has been incredibly chaotic between work, the Valentine's holiday, and general life craziness. I have a lot to update on though and several posts in the works.

First and foremost, my blood sugars are staying fairly well behaved. My 90 day average is at 186 (compared to 200+ just a month or so ago) and my 7 day average is in the 170s. I'm still battling lows that drop very quickly (and unexpectedly as you'll see in another post) to the 50s as well as a few highs in the upper 200s and 300s (still haven't figured out why I had 4 of those last week for no apparent reason). My Lantus is at 32 units as opposed to the former 33 units and I'm still taking 250mg of Metformin every day.

I'm very excited about these better numbers and I'm awaiting my latest A1c results to see if the meter is reading the same as my body. I've still got a few problem areas like overtreating lows, inadequate boluses because of my fear of lows, or poor food choices. Overall, I'm impressed with myself though. I had an entire week of days with 5 blood sugar checks or more and I'm trying to maintain that as much as possible.

In other news, my vacation was awesome and I'd love to be back in the hot, humid weather. Since I took my job last year, I've quickly learned the value of relaxation and time away. For the first time in my life, I was absolutely on board with sitting around the pool, taking hours to eat, and just resting. My blood sugars were fairly behaved, except for several highs in the 300 that I never could pinpoint why they spiked so high and so quickly. And I was able to enjoy a lot of good time and conversation with my mom that is so rare these days.

This week has been quite stressful between work and personal issues. I've recently taken on ten new volunteers so I'm working overtime catching up on cases, assigning new ones, and making phone calls. I'm excited to get my caseload up, but I'm also ready for the weekend to catch up on some R & R. I'll leave the personal issues for another post, but I'm both excited for the changes and ready for them to be over on that also.

I also registered for the JDRF Type1 Now Conference in March in Austin, TX this week so I'm hunting for a hotel and hoping to find a driving buddy for the roadtrip there. I'm excited to meet Six Until Me's Kerri Sparling as I've known her for years, but never met her in person. Since joining the Twitter conversations in the DOC, I've greatly appreciated the snippets of support and interaction that I get each day by staying in touch.

I'm feeling really positive about life right now and I'm happy to be in this place with a source of hope to cling to. I'm hopeful that my blood sugars will continue to decline, that I can raise the Metformin soon, and that I can lose more weight (I've been stuck at 6 pounds lost since December). I'm hopeful that work will settle after next week and I can find a routine that keeps me happy and healthy.
