After reading through and really thinking about all of the comments on my "Carbs vs Points" post I have decided that starting next week, I am going to begin the Weight Watchers Core Plan.


For those who are not familiar with the Core Plan, it's different than the Points plan or Flex plan as they call it. The Core plan has a list of foods that you can eat. You are only to eat from those foods and only eat until satisfied. I am going to do it on a 2 week basis and see how it goes.


So far I have lost 40 pounds using the Flex Plan which is the one with the Points so I have had some success. The problem is my BG and my need for change. I will do some major shopping this weekend to prepare myself for next week but I am actually looking forward to it.


I was looking through the food list and I eat a lot of the Core Foods already so it should not be a major change for me. I have Oatmeal every morning for breakfast. Check. I eat baby carrots like they are going out of style. Check! Guzzle Diet soda. Check! Sugar Free Jello? CHECK!


There a few things I will have to figure out but I need the challenge. Lately my attitude towards life and my health have been pretty bad. I think this will provide a new focus for a while. As much as I am a creature of habit, I also need to push myself and lately, I feel stale.


Each Saturday after weigh in I post a very short "Weight Watchers - Update" post on my personal blog. It helps to have lots of cheerleaders and Boy, do I ever! Thanks for all your comments.


If any of you are on the Core Plan I would love to hear about how you work it into your diabetes routine.

George, that's great! It sounds like the Core Plan is going to be much easier to manage with carb counting than the points were.
Give yourself a big pat on the back for finding a way to change things up!


I find the points plan is working OK for me with diabetes. I am losing very slowly, but nevertheless losing. I like the points plan very much. I have never tried the Core plan I must admit, but Points gives me more control over what I eat and drink. I don't drink sodas of any kind so its not a problem for me. I do eat Fibre 1 for breakfast as I find it a very healthy option and despite all the TV laughter about fibres, it tastes good.


Good job! Just remember, that while carrots are good and easy to snack on they do have a higher GI and raise your BG more than other veggies. I had a horrible withdrawal episode when I was told that - WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO SNACK ON NOW!!!! but my BG did respond when I didn't continuously eat the carrots.


I used the flex plan in the past but wanted to try the core plan but being a vegetarian I figured it wouldn't work. BTW I also don't eat eggs.


Great job George!! Just remember to enjoy what you are doing so that it is a life change and not a diet thing. I am pulling for you. Do what works best for your life style to make you the healthiest you can be to love life.


I am type II and on the core plan which I find is very easy. Funny thing is that I still seem to count points, which my RD & leader at my mtgs say is fine. I also have the little points tracker calculator which I faithfully take w/me to the grocery store. It truly helps! Stick with it George! You can do it!
