I'm reading a new book now thanks to Oprah and the internet. I was cruising around the other day on MSN and I noticed a headline that caught my attention. It said something like "Oprah's Book Club takes on a new book". So I took it upon myself (I was bored and procrastinating) to check it out and it turned out to be a real eye opener. The book is called, "A NEW EARTH, Awakening to Your Life's Purpose" by Eckhart Tolle. I had never heard of this guy so I checked him out a little bit.

Upon our iniital diagnoses of diabetes, many of us turn bitter at the world. We are overwhelmed with the amount of work that goes into testing, logging, carb-counting, and adjusting our insulin or other diabetes medications. We may feel bitter about having to restrict or completely forswear our favorite foods, or bitter at the way our society may blame us for our diabetes (this is particularly true for people with type 1 diabetes, which has no known associated lifestyle factors).

I don't like to post "downers" on Blogabetes unless I can turn them into cautionary morals, or calls to action (either on our own behalf, or on the behalf of all people with diabetes) -- most of us have too much negativity in our lives already. That said, life has been throwing me the sorts of curve balls that force me to think more of survival, mortality, and quality of life than I am comfortable dealing with.
