My girlfriend and I just finished watching a program on TV called "Rock of Love". The star of the show is Bret Michaels, a type 1 diabetic of many years and former lead singer of the rock and roll band, "Poison". My son's baptism is this coming weekend and I've been wracking my brain trying to come up with the perfect menu. At first, I was thinking go easy, buy everything. Then I switched to the idea of save money, make it yourself. Now I've settled on buy some, make some.

What to make, and what to buy? I was going to buy a cake, then I thought it's a quick and easy bake, just pick up a mix and voila, its practically done for you. But then I realized the mixes probably have so many chemicals and preservatives in them, not to mention my arch rival white flour.

So I went online, hoping to find a mix at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's and instead I found a recipe for a natural yellow cake mix, and I had all the ingredients in the house. (READ MORE)

There. I said it. I have been saying that a lot lately. When The Mr. wants to know what's wrong I can often sum it up by saying, "I hate diabetes."

I'm having trouble dealing lately. I know people want to help. I know that when someone says, "It's a way of life," that they're trying to help. I know that when someone suggests I take a walk that they have my best interests at heart.

So why does it just make me want to cry? Why does it make me want to put my head through a wall? Why does it make me want to ignore diabetes and curl up in a ball in a corner? Why can I accept help from people some times and not others?

I made a note on my calendar to call Dr. S today about the bloodwork I had done last week. His nurse told me it may be a week or two before I got results and that I could call any time to see if they were in.

I got impatient (go figure!) and called yesterday. After going through automated phone Hell, I got to the voice mail of the nurse. Her mailbox said feel free to leave a message, but be aware that it may take me 72 hours to get back to you. *sigh*

So I left a message fully expecting NOT to hear from her any time soon. I considered calling again today, but even though I'm impatient I'm not a pest. Well, maybe sometimes.

What kinds of exercises, hobbies, or activities do you enjoy doing and what kinds of things do you do to navigate around blood sugar issues? This was my random thought of the day so far, so I thought I would share it with you guys and see if you would tell me your stories in return.

Personally, one of my most favorite passions is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I am training about 5 times a week or so, it makes me feel great and I love it. But one thing about Jiu Jitsu is that it's very intense and it's difficult to find the balance between having good sugars and being able to participate fully, say for example, like any non-diabetic person would.

I have had neuropathy in my both of my feet for a while now. I have almost gotten used to the tingling and burning pains that come now and then.

Almost.

The tingling is not nearly as bad as the feeling as if a lighted match is being held under your foot and it can be on the heel, at the arch or near my toes. Anywhere is free game and at any time. I hate it.

Lately I have noticed something different. My feet are cold, ice cold. I check for color to make sure blood is present and my pulse is there which is seems to be good but this temperature change freaks me out.

As I was going to bed I started to grunt in pain. My wife asked what was wrong and I told her how just the blankets rubbing on my feet hurt. And how no matter what I did, my feet felt like they were cold.

I lifted my right foot and pushed it up against my left shin to feel the cold and felt nothing. (READ MORE)
