Four years. Is that too long to live with the same pump? Is it long enough? I find myself asking that a lot lately.

I was sorely disappointed when I realized earlier this year that my warranty on Toohey is up in 2012 not 2011. Don't get me wrong, I love Toohey and it has been very good to me. I've had few mishaps, but none serious enough to need a replacement pump (KNOCK ON WOOD!).

In 2008 when I started on my pumping quest, my first choice had been Animas. Well, actually my first choice was Omnipod but I started to realize that as much as I left my insulin pen behind I didn't want to get stuck leaving the Omnipod's PDA behind. There were some other minor issues I had with it, too. Anyway, my second first choice was Animas.

When I got home from work last night I found a large package sitting on my desk.

"Who's this from?" My son was the only one home and as usual he gave the answer most 15 year olds would give.

"I dunno."

I looked at the label and saw it came from Minimed, the makers of my insulin pump.

As of late I have been eyeing the very cool Lakers skin for my pump since the camouflage one came off but I never ordered it. Hmm. Maybe it's my next box of CGM sensors since I am almost done with those? Hmm. Maybe I should just open it and find out. Duh!

I use an insulin pump to manage my diabetes. The pump I use is from Minimed. I have always felt like they have taken good care of me and speak very highly of them.

Don’t get me wrong, I still think they are a good company but I was a little annoyed by a couple of things that happened.

First, I am signed up for the automatic refill program. Every three months a new box of my pump supplies shows up at my door and usually a little earlier then I need to I feel safe and secure. For whatever reason, my quarterly shipment was not sent. (READ MORE)

I have a bad case of tech envy. The other day, I checked out the Animas website to look at the  specs on the Animas 2020 because my friend just went on it. Instead of being swept away with the 2020 like I thought might happen, I am now wholly, madly, deeply in love with the new One Touch Ping that Animas has created.

I currently use the Minimed Paradigm 522. Up  until a few days ago, I was quite content with it. I love the fact that my CGMS is included in the device so I don't have to wear two hefty machines. I love the  ease of the Bolus Wizard. The way it calculates my average blood sugars, basal and bolus insulin, plus my carbs is absolutely amazing.
