I wasn't at all pleased with how switching to a 1:30pm Lantus injection was working for me. It was just too stressful to make sure I took it exactly then and too bothersome to compete with a post-breakfast high and a lack-of-Lantus high. So I switched.

I split the dose for 1:30pm and roughly 11:30pm (I say roughly because the last two days I've been scrambling around the mall or at Christmas tree lots getting my mom's house ready for Friday's party). I started with a 20 unit and a 15 unit split (originally was on 36 units). I haven't had a chance to sit down with the logbook (see said scrambling), but I have felt some differences.

First of all is my morning numbers. Those morning lows are back. This morning, a nice and early 55 woke me up...along with my mother on the phone and the cat in my ear. And this is after a 64 yesterday morning which made me lower the 15 units to 12 units.

National Night Out is a good opportunity to get to know the people providing community services such as fire, police, and rescue. In our town, the police have a squad car for examination, plus a table touting the DARE program (with simulated examples of illegal drugs), a fire-department truck (this year, a ladder truck), a Rescue Squad ambulance, a vehicle or two from the county SWAT team, and free burgers and hot dogs. It's one of the rare occasions for which our residents come out in full force.

My girlfriend and I just finished watching a program on TV called "Rock of Love". The star of the show is Bret Michaels, a type 1 diabetic of many years and former lead singer of the rock and roll band, "Poison". The show is all about Bret attempting to find his "rock of love" and tonight's episode was the season finale. (READ MORE)

Olivia met a girl at Clara Barton last year named Sam. As luck would have it, Sam lived the next town over. The two girls hit it off really well and exchanged phone numbers at the end of the session.

I admit I was eager to foster the friendship because Olivia doesn't have any other friends with diabetes. She knows some D kids, but they're all considerably younger than her and she doesn't have anything, other than diabetes, in common with them. The other kids in school with diabetes are not in her classes and she hasn't made friends with any of them.

Olivia invited Sam to sleep over a couple of times and the girls got along really well. The only fault I could find with Sam was her picky eating habits and considering we're talking twelve year-old, squealy girls here, that's saying something. (READ MORE)
