Saturday was one of those random days for my diabetes. I have been thinking about it and I have come up with a few ideas about why my sugars were off. For one thing, it's the weekend and I ALWAYS seem to have difficulty keeping things on track. I am sure that all of you out there can relate to this. Saturday and Sunday come around and sleeping patterns go out the window! All throughout the work week, I get up about the same time each morning; eat the same size breakfast and then go through my typical work day. Well, then the weekend gets here, and I am eating at completely different times and having irregular meals. And when it comes to physical activity on the weekend, I am either extremely lazy or working exceedingly hard. (READ MORE)

What an awesome, great, fabulous, wonderful time I had this weekend in St. Louis, MO. I attended a family retreat put on by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The event offered people associated with our disease MANY opportunities. There were tons of kids, parents, and loads of helpful information. If you are someone who has diabetes or someone who has a relationship with a person with diabetes then I would highly recommend becoming a part of your local JDRF chapter if you have not already. There are literally hundreds of them around the globe and the nation and you will get everything you need from them.

This weekend is, essentially, a wash. A sick child at 4 a.m. on Saturday can really throw a wrench into your eating and sleeping plans and habits. Despite my erratic schedule Saturday and Sunday, I manage to take my medicine and test on a fairly regular schedule, getting only one blood sugar reading over 200.
A real test came Sunday night when I ran out at 8 p.m. for some groceries and a fast-food dinner on the road. Even though I had thought about and planned to take the Byetta and Metformin before leaving, in my rush to get the shopping done before bedtime I forgot. When I came home, I considered at least taking the Metformin, but I decided not to risk a low.
This morning's fasting is 128, which is pretty darn good considering what I had for dinner last night and that I didn't have any meds to go with it. Furthermore, to be 144 two hours after my tried-and-true bagel breakfast is pretty good. (READ MORE)

Last week was a tough one for me. I was starting to feel really depressed. I know it comes with the D-territory but I cannot stand to feel that way for long. All the comments I received were huge and helped a lot. Luckily, I had a really fantastic weekend that lifted my spirits too and moved me out of the depressed zone I was in.
But something that I do not think has ever happened to me, happened last night. I had a diabetes nightmare and it really scared me. (READ MORE)

Many of you know that I am and have been on Weight Watchers for a while now. The last time I weighed in I was down 36 pounds. People have asked me if my insulin needs have changed at all but strangely enough, I have not noticed any change. Until now. (READ MORE)

This weekend was a busy one.

 

We went to a party, a wedding, and a movie not to mention the typical disc golf game Saturday morning and church on Sunday.

 

Most of our weekends are jam packed with stuff and always right there at the very top of the pile is my diabetes. It is always right there on top of everything else. But this weekend was a little different.

 

Usually with all the running around and stuff going on my diabetes tends to get out of control on weekends. I tend to run high because of the bad food choices I make and end up spending the weekend correcting for many mistakes. But not this weekend.

Everyone needs to take a personal day every now and then. At least that's how I feel. Lately, It seems like I have been running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I have been putting in some long days of landscaping work, I just returned from a weekend trip to Omaha, and my girlfriend is in the process of getting a job back in her home state. And needless to say, all of the chaos and daily schedule changes have my blood sugars going a little crazy. (READ MORE)

This weekend I was working at a church retreat. I would not call it work since all I did was play drums and sing for 4 days. It was more like having my dream job for a short week.
As much as I love to play music and serve others, I continue to find that long days such as these are difficult for me to bounce back from. Is it diabetes or my age? I like to think I am a young 34 for the most part but not too long ago I could function on 4 hours sleep. No longer! I always schedule an extra day off even for vacations and the like because I know I am worthless the following day.
I would love to hear from anyone with diabetes about this. I wonder sometimes if needing a day to recuperate after a weekend trip is a common practice among my fellow d-lifers. (READ MORE)
