The funniest part of Charlie's Edward Scissorhands costume was watching him struggle to grab treats out of candy bowls with his useless scissor hands while trick-or-treating. It was like watching a child use chopsticks. Eventually he had to ask the homeowner to just drop it in his bag for him.
Some called this cruel. Especially when he dropped a Kit-Kat on a neighbor's front porch and then clawed away at it unsuccessfully for 45 seconds like a crab while we watched and giggled from the sidewalk.

I think (man I hope I'm not jinxing this!) that I have nailed my walking routine. Not like I have figured out my route or when to go or anything like that. What I mean is that I think it's close to being a habit.
For example, several days last week my alarm was not set right--I'm pretty sure it was human error (*blush*)--but my internal clock (or my angels) still woke me up at 5:30 a.m. and I was able to go for a walk. Although I was running a few minutes later than usual, I didn't take the bait to just say "screw it" and roll over for an extra 20 minutes of precious sleep.
Yesterday, I could have very easily avoided the walk and was actually quite close to do so, but having skipped Friday (I went to all school mass with No. 1) and Saturday (No. 2's birthday party) it was actually pretty easy to convince myself to get out the door and go.

Just a few days to go until Halloween; the first of the food holidays. The stores have been stocked with trick or treat candy since Labor Day. I have fallen for that trap before - buy treats for the kiddos in early October, then again the next week and again the next because the candy keeps getting eaten up. The past 2 years I got wiser and don't buy the Halloween candy until less than 5 days to go. (That's not as smart as it sounds since we have not had a single trick or treater since we moved into this house in the woods 4 years ago!)

Happy Halloween! I suspect it is only in the USA that Halloween has taken on such huge proportions. It's the number two holiday for decoration sales. There are probably a lot of interesting psychological reasons why Americans are drawn to a holiday all about appearing to be someone else; but that's a post for a different forum.
As a person with type 2 diabetes, I really dislike the candy aspect of the celebration. In all honesty, I really
LIKE the candy aspect, but dislike having to try and restrain myself. It didn't used to be ALL candy. Remember apples? But then the
urban myth of the razor blade in the apple started and that was the end of apples for trick or treat.
Remember "Trick or Treat for UNICEF"? I haven't see that for several years.

finally got the results from my bloodwork. My endo has you come in for the appointment, then go do bloodwork, then mails you the results with a note of any changes they want to implement on it. I'd prefer to have the numbers to discuss at the appointment, but I really like the other aspects of his practice, so I stay with him.
Without further ado - the number all persons with diabetes are most interested in -
the A1C. (drumroll, please)
5.5%. Yes, five point five! I have seen 5.5 before but I was pregnant and on insulin. I am pretty thrilled. My last A1C in May was 5.8, so this is great.

OK, I really don't hate
Halloween. In fact, I really like the "holiday". I love to see well-done costumes and to watch my children have so much fun gathering all that candy and showing off their costumes. It's fun to watch them have fun. Even my office-mates enjoy the black-and-orange season. This morning we all walked downstairs to see the parade of three-year-old preschoolers come through in their costumes while trick-or-treating at the downtown businesses. We oohed and aahhed at the pirate, the princess, the flower and the pilot.

I am up 1 pound from a month ago. I've been up as high as 3 pounds and as low as 2 pounds down. Truth be told, it's more like 6 weeks I have been doing this yo-yo trick up and down that 5 pound range.
I've been fairly good about logging my food. The days that the log stops at lunch are the problem. The afternoon snack attacks are sabotaging my efforts. I feel helpless to stop them. It's really detrimental to be feeling this way.

And just stop it Cadbury or Mars Inc. or any other bogus chocolate maker trying to come out with your own peanut butter and chocolate treat. Stop it! You're embarrassing yourself. None of you come even remotely close to the brilliance of the Reeses Peanut Butter Cup formula. When the kids get such wannabe candy dropped in their Halloween bags, I instruct them to throw it back from whence it came, like a home run ball to center field from the opposing team.

Scanning the aisles of the grocery store, I was looking for something brownie-ish. As usual, I was assaulted by the donut counter as soon as I walked in the door (location, location, location!). But with no chocolate cake donuts with chocolate icing, it was easy for me to walk past. I quickly perused the bakery area for something tantalizing, and was actually pleased that nothing struck my fancy.
I have learned lately that when I have a craving I have to be very specific with myself or I wind up eating more that I bargained for because I'm not satisfied. So I can't go after something that's "just chocolate." I have to consider texture, temperature and portion size.

This is all over the diabetes online community and may have already been posted about on here, but I'm going to chime in with my 2 cents.
Have you heard? Halle Berry has managed to
cure herself of type 1 diabetes and has beaten it down to type 2 and doesn't need insulin any more.
Isn't that a neat trick?
Perez Hilton even has something on it. You know the diabetes online community is really up in arms if it's being reported on

It's been talked almost to death, but I don't understand what Halle Berry's problem is with having diabetes. If she has type 1, is she ashamed of that? If it's type 2, shouldn't she be out there saying "Look! It's not a fat disease! Thin people who eat well and exercise a lot can also get type 2!
