Ok. So today I want to discuss some research that I think is very interesting and it has to do with your favorite cup of joe.
If you remember, back in early December I wrote an article called
Hyperglycemia coffee anyone?. The article discussed my feelings about drinking coffee and how I thought it raised my sugar. I had a few people comment on my post who had also experienced this blood sugar raising phenomenon as well.

I find that dinner seems to throw my sugars off worse than anything! I guess I just can't help myself whenever it gets to be chow time. I LOVE ME SOME FOOD! It never fails; I'll go through the whole day and not have one high sugar and then BAM! Hyperglycemia CITY!
My eyes get way too big for my stomach!
Usually I'll come home after a long day, start raiding the cabinets and throwing random stuff together, next thing you know, I got a plate a nachos, some peanut butter cookies, and a Popsicle!
I know, I know, I am supposed to
eat healthy all the time...or something like that. I don't want people to think that because I'm a trainer that I eat perfect every day! I'm only human!

I get frustrated every day. Diabetes is making me feel like I am semi-losing my mind. I literally have to ask myself everyday, "Am I losing it"? To be honest with you it is scaring me a little. My sugars are all over place. Is this blood sugar roller coaster "normal" for those people out there who are doing "good" with diabetes?
I would like to pose a question to you if you're reading this right now and you are a person with type 1 diabetes and take daily insulin injections. If you have an
A1C of 6 or lower, how often are your sugars in the 200's... if ever?

Most will call it dry mouth or cotton mouth , some might say they have a waterless windpipe or a parched palate, acting disturbed by their unquenched uvula, and yet another might compare it to having a
mouthful of sweaters mucking up the place to no end. Whatever alliterative or clothed name it goes by, the sticky mouth feel of a high blood sugar is enough to furrow my brow to its limit.

After a couple of days worth of Christmas Goodies my
insulin pump was ready for a new reservoir. I thought about this on the drive home and somewhere throughout all the evening rituals suchs as checking emails and opening up mail I completely forgot about my pump.
It was right before we were going to sit down for dinner and I realized that I had not refilled. I check my pump that shows -:-- and the time left. Great! I grab my bottle of insulin and all my supplies. Is it just me or does
insulin turn into champagne when you are in a hurry? I swear my reservoir looked like I had it filled with soap! There were bubbles everywhere.

In yesterdays post, Lantus and late night lows, I discussed lowering my basal dose. I had read an article where a type 1 diabetic endocrinologist proposed taking less insulin for someone my size. I was taking 17 or 18 units of Lantus each morning and he stated that I only needed about 12-15. I have tried my new morning dose of 15 and so far I feel I need a few more "test run" days.
