Over fifteen percent of San Diego County's population of 2.9 million has been evacuated from their homes due to impending threats of fast burning fires. The San Diego Charger's home field, Qualcomm Stadium, as well as local shelters and hotels are being filled up as a safe-haven for relocated San Diegans. More than 1,300 homes and businesses have been set afire by the wind propelled wildfires and containment in some areas is still zero percent. (READ MORE)

The evening was perfect. My friends and I looked like we just stepped out of a magazine. I finally got a dress to work (thanks to an ingenious idea that I'll cover in a future post!). We even valeted the car. Everything was fabulous.

After chatting and perusing the silent auction items, we headed into the Ballroom of the Americas for dinner and the main events. I was excited to be there, excited to be part of such a personal and amazing fundraising event. I didn't realize how excited I would be as the night progressed. I didn't realize how carried away I would be by the actual facts.

Dinner was magnificent. The food was scrumptious. The presentation was perfect. Dessert was the best part. Chocolate napoleon with chocolate covered strawberries. Two of my favorite things. I even judged the carbs and activity perfectly (I ended the evening at 130).

2007 is behind us now. It blurred by and stamped in key moments that will surely be remembered. My past year with diabetes stacks upon only a few others since I was diagnosed. 2008 will mark four years since that day in the hospital and it seems like I'm always learning something new. Each highlighted moment in this year taught me a little more about how I successfully live with diabetes. (READ MORE)

On Thursday night, I found myself in an emergency room exam room at 2 am, waiting anxiously and staring up at a picture of a baby cocker spaniel posing cutely in a watering can.

No, don't worry. Charlie is fine. I'm fine too. Whole family is fine. This was an emergency room for pets. But wait, I don't even own a pet.  I'm not even a pet person. I had to get up for work in a few hours. What was I doing?

People have favourite locations to put their pump sites. Olivia is partial to her belly. I know dLife's very own newlywed, Kerri, loves to put sites in her thighs.

Over the weekend, while we were at the beach, Olivia decided to try a thigh site, even though she hasn't had much luck with them in the past. Most of the time, she rips them out because she forgets they're there when she takes off her jeans. But it's summer, she's in shorts and she thought she'd give it another try.

Sunday morning, we put a site in. Sunday was OK. She had a couple of highs, but they were in the low 200s and, of course, she'd forgotten to put her blood sugar in her pump once or twice, which is her ongoing issue.

Olivia hasn't had too many problems with her teachers over the years. Most have been very accepting of her diabetes and the care she needs to take with it while she's in class. I have a packet of stuff I give to all of her teachers at the beginning of each year and thus far, that seems to be sufficient.

This year, though, she got switched a couple of weeks into the school year. She got a new English teacher and I just assumed that the old one would pass along the diabetes info. Wrong.
