Since yesterday, I’ve been working on fundraising and getting tickets for the JDRF Promise Ball coming up in the next few weeks. So far I have raised $2000 (or 4 tickets). I’m so excited! Not only have I raised money for a charity that means the world to me, but I’m getting dressed up and meeting dozens of new people that have been through everything I’ve been through.

The evening was perfect. My friends and I looked like we just stepped out of a magazine. I finally got a dress to work (thanks to an ingenious idea that I'll cover in a future post!). We even valeted the car. Everything was fabulous.

 

After chatting and perusing the silent auction items, we headed into the Ballroom of the Americas for dinner and the main events. I was excited to be there, excited to be part of such a personal and amazing fundraising event. I didn't realize how excited I would be as the night progressed. I didn't realize how carried away I would be by the actual facts.

 

Dinner was magnificent. The food was scrumptious. The presentation was perfect. Dessert was the best part. Chocolate napoleon with chocolate covered strawberries. Two of my favorite things. I even judged the carbs and activity perfectly (I ended the evening at 130).

To the families of special-needs children all across the country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters.

I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House.

Gov. Palin, I can't tell you how much this means to me and my family. For eight long years it felt as if we didn't have a friend in the White House. Phew! Thank you for being my friend. What a relief. I have to be honest, I wasn't expecting that. I too am a parent of a special-needs child. My 6-year-old son Charlie has been living with type 1 diabetes since he was a baby. 

As my friend, I'm sure you and Senator McCain will lift the restrictions on federal funding of embryonic stem cell research the moment you take office. That's what friends do, right? Friends are there for you when you need them most.

Tomorrow is the JDRF Promise Ball. I still haven’t figured out what I’m going to wear. Since it’s black tie, I wanted to wear one of the many evening gowns I have laying around (from prom and other balls). So last week, I tried on the main one I wanted, but I didn’t feel comfortable.

I've been mysteriously absent from the blogging world again. My apologies! I've been busy with baby and holidays, and keeping myself healthy despite the viral-cold-winds that are a-blowing. With a school teacher husband, it's hard to keep germs out of the house!
I thought I'd touch base with a quick recap of the last few weeks.
I took the month of December off of blood sugar management to focus on weight loss. I rejoined Weight Watchers (I'm a lapsed lifer) and found a meeting that's more like family with a great leader, Kim. Despite the holidays, I managed to stick to the program. (READ MORE)

Anyone who knows me-or has read me-knows that I was not blessed with patience. In fact, I'm sure that I'm getting a dose of what my mother went through when I was younger in the form of my nearly five-year-old daughter. According to my husband, she epitomizes-and quite often exceeds-my level of patience. And she's exasperating at times! (There is a point to this, I promise!)
I'm literally not kidding when I say that the instant I injected my first dose of Byetta I expected to be nauseous and for my appetite to be gone. I was quite disappointed when that didn't happen. (READ MORE)

Dear Santa Baby,
Ok, maybe I'm not on your list of good persons with diabetes this year, but surely I'm not on the naughty PWD list either! My A1C has stayed in the 5's all year. I had a baby WITHOUT macrosomia. So I think I can ask for a few items your elves might be able to whip up, if not for this year, surely in time for next year's yule. (READ MORE)

I promise you, I don't go looking for bloggable moments from Charlie. I don't follow him around the house like the Verizon Wireless guy, asking, "How do feel about diabetes now? How do you feel about diabetes now? How do you feel about diabetes now?"
Take last night, for instance. I was minding my own business as I dried him off after his shower and we walked into his room, when he hits me with ,
"Dad, do you ever wish you had diabetes?"
"Well ,," I said, stalling while thinking how best to respond.
"Well, sometimes I do because I don't want you to feel alone."
"Oh," Charlie said with a thin smile. "I thought you were going to say 'no.'"
