Over the weekend, I had a
low blood sugar in the middle of the night that left me feeling like I had been beaten soundly and left in a ditch. (Covered in petrol, a la
Eddie Izzard.)
It was a strange experience, though, because the "low hangover" feeling was neatly accompanied by a feeling of guilt. This low wasn't one that came out of no where and smacked up upside the head. This low was the result of a miscalculation while I was at dinner.

I have a love relationship with my insulin. Every diffused dose I have taken over the years found its way into my system with appreciation, even if it stung like the bejesus at times. Like an addict, the smooth emptying of a
syringe or
cannula gives me immediate comfort, and I know that my body is staying up to date on its hormonal needs. I know the energy I consume can go to work and my internal hemoglobic labyrinth is not under any stress.

I love this time of year so much and there are dozens of reasons why.
Christmas time elicits so many warm feelings of love and togetherness. My mind is instantly filled with great memories and thoughts. My body just seems to run on happy auto-pilot all the time. I just feel good. People in general just seem to be so much more pleasant. Everybody's energy is so much more peaceful and caring. I constantly wonder how the world would be if everyone would just stay in this peaceful mind frame year round. Wouldn't that just be amazing? I wish. Right? One of the things that I like the most is hearing all the Christmas songs.

To describe diabetes in three words is very difficult. That's because at any given time, your thoughts and feelings about this disease are changing. So I guess one word that comes to mind is
unpredictable . It is important to note, however, that with better control comes more predictability. I think I view my diabetes as little bit more unpredictable because I have trouble keeping my sugars regulated. I feel a person who can maintain an A1C of 6 can predict their blood sugar a lot more accurate than a person with hemoglobin of 8. Maybe I'm wrong though. Another word that I would use to describe my diabetes is unfair.

As I was driving home from my dad's last night, Olivia and I started talking about her dad. He's not exactly a role model-type guy and they've had a very rocky relationship for the last two plus years.
The conversation started off discussing my concerns about The Bug and Olivia commented that she didn't think the other girls could get diabetes since it didn't run in the family. I said that we didn't know that, given that her father's side of the family has an obsession with hiding the facts. After a brief discussion of her grandfather's parentage and the fact that most of his family, and her grandmother's, for that matter, were still in Ireland, she told me that a comment her dad made years ago had stuck with her for a long time.

I haven't had much to blog about lately and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Many times I get the motivation to write something simply out of frustration with my diabetes. A lot of times people write about things that are bothering them. People also share experiences they go through where diabetes somehow negatively comes into play.
I am happy to say that today and the past week have been pretty good for me.
I have been working more, working out a lot, and having surprisingly great control over my blood sugars.
