Many of you know that I am and have been on Weight Watchers for a while now. The last time I weighed in I was down 36 pounds. People have asked me if my insulin needs have changed at all but strangely enough, I have not noticed any change. Until now. (READ MORE)

I’m mad.

It’s not even lunch time on the day of my appointment and already I’m looking for a new endo.

I’m mad. But mostly I think I’m homesick for Dr. C and his practice. I’m not sure I can put my thoughts together coherently, so you’re being subjected to my morning in bullet points.

• I don’t remember how I settled on this doctor, but it seems to me that his office was the closest one for a doctor whose credentials didn’t come from the University of Guatemala or University of the Phillipines.

• In the waiting room I sat. And sat. I sat too long considering my appointment was at 8 a.m. Once I got in a room I sat. And sat. I sat too long considering I barely had time to think about picking up a magazine at Dr. C’s office much less actually read several articles.

The waiting room in endocrinology was like an assembly line of children with diabetes. Each time one child went in, another appeared. Then another and another and another. Very sad.

I zoomed in on a cute little girl with shoulder-length hair and a top with purple and red hearts as she buried her face into her father's shirt as he talked to the receptionist. Maybe just diagnosed? Don't know for sure. She had a sort of worry that should never be on a child's face.

I leaned over to Susanne to point out the girl, but she said "I know."

Coffea Arabica, cup o'joe, java, brew, jamocha, mud, caffiene, cafe au lait, espresso, cappachino, latte, breve - you name it - I LOVE it. They CANNOT have my coffee!
It used to be that coffee lowered your risk of type 2 diabetes. Go ahead and get hooked on it, but once you get that diagnosis, now you gotta go cold turkey.
I'm sure you've seen the news to which I'm referring. It's also here. (READ MORE)

I am shocked at how quickly it happened. The first Friday in August, I met with a new endo. A week later my pump arrived. No hassles. No paperwork. No out-of-pocket costs. Bing, bang, boom...it was on my door step.

Last week, I met with the diabetes educator who trained me with saline. And as of 12:14 this afternoon, I'm pumping with insulin. I'm excited. I'm nervous. I'm giddy. I'm overwhelmed.

I picked the Minimed Paradigm 722, because I'm familiar with it (my friend Lizzy has one) and because I want the CGM to go with it. Currently, my insurance company is not covering CGM, but my diabetes educator is confident that I can get it approved once I am actually pregnant. I'm tempted to buy one out of pocket and try to get it approved later, but I'm not sure I can swing it if it's not approved. I was considering buying a used one, but frankly, I have no idea where to find one.

I was invited to be part of a local mini-series. How exciting! I envision my name in lights, a crowd of adoring fans, gorgeous women at my feet,.

For the past two weeks or so, my blood sugars have been running high. I had lowered my basals when I came back to school because I was having too many lows with my new schedule. I'm guessing that the basals need to be raised again since I've slowly adjusted to the schedule and I'm hitting exam times so my stress is increased.
