Last week I was attending a 3 day Leadership Training course at a facility outside of Las Vegas. All 30 of the attendees were strangers to one another and all from different industries from all over the country! I was very nervous about how I was going to do after finding out so many of these people were owners, vice presidents, and upper management for their companies. I was not sure how I would hold up around all these professionals!
We got our room assignments and I knew we would be staying in small dorm rooms. They were more like hotel rooms with 2 bunk beds in them. I was lucky enough to get a bottom bunk so my night time visits to the rest room would not wake up my bunk partner as much as jumping down and climbing back up would have.

Kerri, our buddy ol' pal here at Blogabetes, sent us bloggers some writing prompts the other day. One prompt that hit home with me was writing about what people can do during these cold months to stay active and keep the pounds off. It is a natural process for us as humans to throw on a few extra lbs as the cold weather starts to approach. With that in mind, I for one, really enjoy working out in MY VERY OWN LIVING ROOM. Even as dedicated as some of us are to working out, it is still a pain to get out into the cold. Nobody likes running to their car, scraping the ice off, and waiting for it warm up just to drive to the gym!! It is hard enough for people to be motivated on the warm days. That's where your living room and your creativity come into play.

I had a very nice time this weekend sweating it out at the sweat lodge. I had a few concerns that were diabetes related, but in the end everything went very well and I learned a lot. I arrived at the location where the sweat would take place feeling prepared for an event I had no way of knowing how to prepare. The experience will never be forgotten and one that I will always be proud of. Ultimately the lesson I was reminded of this weekend is that you should never let diabetes stop you from trying anything that you want to do no matter what anybody else says and that preparation is always key to a good time.

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,
Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen.
But do you recall, the most pancreatically-challenged reindeer of all?
Rudolph the diabetic ('betic)
Had some very nasty lows (like a 30)
And if you ever asked him (asked him)
He would even say it blows (like a mofo)
All of the other reindeer (reindeer)
Used to laugh and call him names (like Sugar Boy)
They said he was contagious
They didn't want to be the same (the same)
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say (ho ho ho)

Back on November 14th was World Diabetes Day. I really wanted to do something special to mark the day this year. I decided I would write a song and record myself playing it to try and raise some awareness.
On my drive home from work on Thursday the 13th I started humming a tune that I thought would work. I knew I wanted the song to be my personal feelings about my disease and I wanted it to be empowering.

Things are better today. I appreciated the comments I got on my “
What the F?” post. I agree, yeah sometimes I do probably think things to death. And yes, we all have “those days” from time to time- diabetes or no diabetes. Like I said, writing those posts in my “diary” (blog) made me feel much better. I said that it was good to see my diary again … and I meant it.
I also meant what I said about my martial arts and my health and being thankful for having the physical abilities that I am graced with. I try and maintain that positive outlook all the time.
With that being said and put aside for the time being, I would like to talk about a few other things today. I would really like to hear from you guys. If you don’t have the ability to comment, you should really see about becoming a member of dlife. We would love to have you contribute your two cents in the comment section below.
