I have to take issue with something my new, wonderful treatment team seems to think. Dr. A said, "It really doesn't matter what type of diabetes you have as long as you have an effective treatment method." While I mostly agree with him, I have to say that a lot of people with diabetes want the distinction; we want to know the label. Because even though the treatment method may be the same, it’s still different.
Despite me rattling off a list of drugs meant for people with Type 2 that I tried and that didn't work, and telling him my c-peptide result (<0.1), Dr. A still said, "I think you are Type 2."

My pump sites have just not been cooperating lately. No matter where I put the canula - it ends up hurting. A lot. Enough so that I complain about it.
To give you an idea of what it takes for me to complain - I am a girl who has had external fixators drilled into a bone in my arm for eight weeks and who refused pain killers (other than Tylenol) after two days. I'm not a sissy. Not at all. So these sites are causing me more than a little bit of turmoil.

Hey, boss. I'm going to have some bloodwork done on my way in tomorrow. I should be in by 8:30. I went to do it on Friday afternoon, but my doctor's office failed to tell me I had to be fasting. Grrr.

The poem/song Auld Lang Syne is a toast to the departing year written by Robert Burns in 1788. I think that's a lovely sentiment. In that spirit, I'd like to salute my health in 2008.
2008 was a good year as far as diabetes. My A1C is stable, and regular exercise seems to help level out the glucose rollercoaster. I weigh just 1 pound more than last New Year's. That sounds more stable than reality - up as much as 15 pounds, down as much as 10.
My endocrinologist's office switched me to six months between visits from three. It's a good sign, with most conditions, if your doctor wants to see you less. I'll be seeing them this month, as a matter of fact.

I arrived home from work on Monday night to a very brightly colored, giant-sized envelope from Smiths Medical. 'Important Information' it declared. 'Open Immediately!'
So I did. And read: Your current Cozmore System warranty expires in December of 2008. Please begin the process of replacing your pump immediately, as we will be unable to replace your pump should something go wrong after December 9, 2008. Alright then.
The very next day, I went online and printed out both an Insurance Information form and a Medical Necessity Form. I filled out the first form, signed and sent to Smiths. Then I faxed the second form to my Doc (who is amazing) and by that afternoon, it was filled out and faxed to Smiths. Great. I'm on my way to a new pump. Right?
