Well here's something I didn't see coming: Sugar-Free Chocolate Chip Girl Scout cookies. I walked into the lunch room at work and there, on the stainless steel countertop, rested this never-before-seen box of cookies.
"Where did these come from?" I asked my co-worker.
"No idea," they said, through a mouthful of crumbs. "But they're pretty tasty."

(I love when people without diabetes can't tell that they're eating something less crammed with sugar than what they're used to.) (READ MORE)

Here's a wonderful rainy-day project that's perfect for children and adults of all ages.

In our household, we love to gather around a child with diabetes and create these charming découpage infusion set sites - providing a unique and modern twist to traditional drab medical adhesives.

With Father's Day fast approaching, I've selected these fabulous clip art images of famous fathers to glue onto your child's body – Father Guido Sarducci, Father Time, Puff Daddy and Papa John. I just love the way the Papa John's pizza with all the toppings came out. Yum! What child wouldn't want to wear one of these magnificent infusion sites in the likeness of these wonderful fathers on their bottom?

It's sad when a basic necessity becomes a luxury. But as a new mom, I'm learning fast that things I once took for granted, like a daily shower or a quick trip to Starbucks for the new Sugar-free Gingerbread Latte (yum! have you tried it?), are all too hard to come by these days.
The worst of it is sleep. During pregnancy, I was warned by parents everywhere to enjoy my sleep while I still could. And I knew having a baby in the house would make it difficult to catch a few Zzzs. But I honestly was not prepared for just how bad it would really be.
I'm lucky if I get four hours in a 24-hour period.
It takes a real toll on my mood (just ask my husband) and my energy level. Now research shows this chronic sleep deprivation is bad for my health and weight. (READ MORE)

I had one, maybe two, good weeks on Atkins. Then funky things started happening with my blood sugar again. Despite not eating many carbs (and keeping those precious few carbs I ate to things like spinach, broccoli and baby romaine), my premeal readings started creeping up again.
Somedays, I'd wake up high--higher than when I went to bed the night before. One night, I went to sleep at 133 (which isn't too shabby for me these days) and woke up at 190. I didn't eat anything in my sleep either. That just isn't fair. If I'm going to be 190, I should at least get the joy of having done something to "deserve" it. (READ MORE)

My son's baptism is this coming weekend and I've been wracking my brain trying to come up with the perfect menu. At first, I was thinking go easy, buy everything. Then I switched to the idea of save money, make it yourself. Now I've settled on buy some, make some.
What to make, and what to buy? I was going to buy a cake, then I thought it's a quick and easy bake, just pick up a mix and voila, its practically done for you. But then I realized the mixes probably have so many chemicals and preservatives in them, not to mention my arch rival white flour.
So I went online, hoping to find a mix at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's and instead I found a recipe for a natural yellow cake mix, and I had all the ingredients in the house. (READ MORE)

We had a spate of hot weather at the beginning of June and Olivia, like the rest of us, was guzzling liquids like no tomorrow. At the time, all we had in the house was lemonade mix, juice and water. She does drink a fair amount of water, but was also drinking a lot of juice and lemonade. I wasn't thrilled with all the extra calories she was taking in, not to mention the cost of restocking all that juice and lemonade. It's amazing how quickly the people in my house go thru that stuff - I don't drink it, but man, I hear about it when it's gone.

Peddler's Village in Lahaska, Pennsylvania, has 42 acres of quaint specialty shops, restaurants and country landscape with a small town Colonial charm. It has strawberry festivals in the Spring and a scarecrow competition in the Fall.

On Sunday, it had two diabetics crashing simultaneously on the stone steps between Hats Galore & More and Skin 'n Tonic Day Spa.

If combined, their blood sugar would have been a perfect 108. But separately, my father and Charlie were in bad shape and spiraling rapidly downward.

Note to self : People with diabetes should eat.

I've been trying to stick to my new diet and exercise plan in hopes to lose weight. I did a good job on exercise until this week and I've kept up the food stipulations for about four weeks now. Yet I'm not losing any kind of weight. I'm not looking more toned. I'm exactly the same.

And I am so frustrated. I know that losing weight doesn't happen over night, but I can't even seem to get half a pound off much less a significant difference to make me feel better. I have to say that doesn't motivate me to keep going.

Today, I splurged on food and got lunch at Chick-fil-a and didn't pick a healthy option. I haven't run since last Thursday although I did move the entire weekend. But I can't seem to get my tennis shoes on or my behind into the gym this week. I just want to sleep and eat.
