I've seen a lot of blog posts lately about restarting a fitness program, or starting again to tighten up blood sugar control, or losing weight. Â I have posted on these subjects myself. Â Many. Many. Times.
I got to thinking the other night about what causes my failures. Â And how I could do it differently, with better results. Â The past few years I have met Einstein's definition of insanity - doing the same things over and over and expecting different results.
I go into this with the idea that it's for LIFE. Â Never again will I binge on malted milk balls. Â I will work out EVERY DAY the rest of my life. Â I will check my sugar 4 times a day minimum. Â You get the idea. Â It gets overwhelming very quickly.

Kerri, our buddy ol' pal here at Blogabetes, sent us bloggers some writing prompts the other day. One prompt that hit home with me was writing about what people can do during these cold months to stay active and keep the pounds off. It is a natural process for us as humans to throw on a few extra lbs as the cold weather starts to approach. With that in mind, I for one, really enjoy working out in MY VERY OWN LIVING ROOM. Even as dedicated as some of us are to working out, it is still a pain to get out into the cold. Nobody likes running to their car, scraping the ice off, and waiting for it warm up just to drive to the gym!! It is hard enough for people to be motivated on the warm days. That's where your living room and your creativity come into play.

Exercise! Do something! I can’t tell you how life-changing exercise and fitness is for me…but I’ll try!
So this morning I woke up, had some coffee and some breakfast, and then worked for 3 hours or so until I felt it was time to get in some physical activity. Since I’m in Florida at the moment I really am enjoying taking advantage of working out in the sun. It feels so good and I love that the sun aids in improving my circulation in my feet and my entire body. Definitely something that you guys out there can relate with.

The holidays are just as good as any day to get some movement in. Researchers say that the average person gains 7 pounds between Thanksgiving and the New Year. If that's not incentive enough to get out and take a walk or do some activities, THEN I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS! We all know how we can get carried away on Thanksgiving and Christmas with shoving food down our throats. I am just as guilty as the next person. I sit around and eat, watch movies, or play board games. I also know that with family around there can be additional stress. What better way to remove some of that stress than with some boxing or aerobics?

We all know the importance of exercise and the many benefits we get from it. Today I would like to give some ideas about different ways to achieve a solid workout. Many of us have daily or weekly routines that we follow. We spend each workout doing the exact same thing as before. I want to stress the importance of mixing it up.
For example, if you are a die hard cardio fan then try adding in some various resistance exercises. Let's say that you take a walk each morning for 45 minutes. You might walk the exact same trail at the exact same intensity. Next time, consider the following variations.

I'm not sure what to say tonight, but I'm in need of some reflection with the people who get this. This blog is going out to this whole diabetes community who live these same things every day, who understand the words before I even type them, and who never judge even when I'm the biggest failure ever.
Lately, I just want to scream. I am so frustrated with my diabetes. I am so desperate for a cure. I've lived almost 18 years with this disease. I've paid my dues and done my time. I just want it to end already.
The way I'm living right now is as if that's true. I do all the necessities to get by, but I know that I could be working harder at this disease. I know that I could be making it to the gym more or cutting out more carbs. But I'm not. I just can't focus on the diabetes.

Since classes ended last week, I've been able to step back from life and take a deep breath. This semester was absolutely insane. I was taking six classes (18 hours) and none were all that easy. On top of that, I worked my normal amount. Plus, I've further established Diabetic Echoes and held weekly meetings on campus.
Needless to say, I haven't had much time for myself or for my diabetes. I'm months behind on my logging. I haven't uploaded my pump information since September. I'm eating whatever is fast and nearby, instead of making conscious choices on my nutrition. Plus, I haven't kept a steady workout routine.

I'm really irritated with my weight lately. I've gained over five pounds back from the twenty that I worked so hard to lose last year. It all started after my endometriosis surgery and the start of Accutane.
For one, my surgery got me out of my incredibly strict habits of running and working out. I had to take time off to recover. And once that recovery was over, I just couldn't get back into it. I missed it. I missed the way my body felt, but there were bigger things stopping me.
The Accutane was the biggest hindrance. There was the fatigue. There was the joint pain, then the back pain. Then the headaches. One thing fell on top of another and working out was the last thing on my mind.
