I starting preparing for my workout as soon as I woke up on Monday. I changed my basal rates to an alternate pattern so I wouldn't forget at 6:30pm to switch over the basal rate. I was set to go, pumped up for the workout later that evening.
When I got home from work at 5, I realized that I hadn't eaten lunch and I was feeling a bit low. I grabbed some cashews and strawberry ice cream (no, not mixed together). I wasn't quite hungry enough for dinner, but wanted something to tide me over. Over an hour later, I was feeling better but tired. I checked my blood sugar. 113. Perfect...kind of.

Man, are my legs killing me. I can barely walk down the stairs while carrying an almost 15 pound baby. What in the world could have made me so sore? I haven't been to the gym or done any exercise videos. But I have not been this sore since I can't remember when.
Then it hits me. We bought a Wii over the weekend. Determined to use the purchase for good, I've been making sure to move as much as possible while playing games. The "purpose" was to get us off the couch and get some "exercise". I just never thought it would work this well.
So far, my favorite game is bowling. I'm not a good bowler in real life, and I'm not a great virtual bowler either. But it's still fun (and somehow I still manage to throw gutter bowls?). My own mother who has never played a video game in her life totally kicks my tail in Wii bowling, too. (READ MORE)

"How are you?" The Mr. wanted to know as I climbed to the top of a step ladder in our kitchen last night.
"I'm good, sweetie. Just trying to fend off a potential low," I said.
"Oh?" he questioned.
"It's hard work getting all this wallpaper off," I said, scraping off pink, flowery wallpaper. (Good riddance, finally!) There were several moments when I was actually slightly out of breath and felt my heart racing a bit.
I had tried a new recipe last night: mini pizzas made on English muffins-definitely not a diabetic-friendly meal, but I'm cutting costs and this was yummy and cheap. I snacked a little before dinner and thought I had bolused appropriately for the pizza. But without checking my numbers before getting to work on the kitchen, I don't really know where I was before my "workout." (READ MORE)

I bought a treadmill today. I'm quite excited to actually use it soon. But I need a plan that works with my diabetes and helps me stay on track. I think I need to start out slow to get myself into the habit, then I can continue working up from there.
I figure I definitely have two nights a week to myself that I can devote to working out. If I can just create the habit of doing it two times a week, then eventually I can work up to three and four times a week. But it's a matter of setting aside those days to actually do it.

I believe a good workout comes with sweat. Which is why I don’t exercise during my lunch break and also why I prefer to exercise first thing in the morning.
I prefer to do my exercise walking outside. Using a treadmill is a last resort for me. I’m one of those weird people who’s more likely to exercise if it means I *don’t* have to go to the gym.
I’ve written a number of times lately about being committed to figuring out how to fit exercise into my schedule. The farthest I’ve gotten is the part where I say I’m going to think about it. But I’m getting fluffy and clothes that used to fit beautifully aren’t so much any more. Plus, I feel good when I exercise.

A week ago I was all prepared to write a post about how I was ready to lose weight. I was tired of my muffin top and of my clothes being too tight. And I fear this summer's trip to the beach in a bathing suit.
That was a week ago. A week ago, when I was ready to dig my workout clothes out from their hiding places. A week ago, when I was ready to shun fast food and treats. It's amazing what a week can do. (READ MORE)

I have been working out about 4 times a week for SEVEN months now! This is a lifetime record for me, working out consistently for so long. I'm really starting to see a difference, and as soon as I figure out my health-care strategy, I expect to see results via my A1C test. I have reached one goal already - the ability to play tag with my son until he gives up, not until I collapse.
I have found there are more downsides to getting fit than I expected. Time, money, and physical effects are all turning out differently than I expected.

Exercise can be a really tricky thing when you're diabetic. Whether you're starting a new routine or just changing up an old one, it's tough to manage blood sugars alongside cardio and resistance training. The ups and downs add an extra edge to the difficulty of staying in shape.
Last week, I decided to try some new exercise classes which sent my blood sugars into a tailspin. Luckily, I was able to lower my insulin and fend off the lows...but I wasn't able to achieve the balance that I crave. This week I'm still working hard to get back into shape (and lose some more weight)...but mostly I'm trying to find that medium ground between the highs and lows of exercise.

It seems like lately I've felt more abnormal than ever before in my life. I've always known I wasn't like the rest of the world. I have always been the different kid, the one who had to eat different food, the one who did shots all the time. I thought that I wouldn't feel so different when I got older. I figured that with time diabetes would be just a part of my life like being a brunette or having freckles. Now I'm getting older and diabetes is completely ingrained in me, but I still feel different. (READ MORE)

Since I raised the Metformin to 500 mg on Thursday, I've seen some interesting effects. First, my stomach is having a little bit of trouble off and on. I'm trying to tough it out though and find ways around it (eating small snacks regularly, taking a fiber supplement, and downing Pepto when necessary). Secondly, my blood sugars are showing signs of "improvement."
The past week, I saw near perfect numbers. Waking up in the 120 to 130 range. Coasting after meals to 170. An average down to 164. But since Thursday, I've also seen some lows that I'd rather not even get close to. They've only been in the 70s and 80s and nothing severe. But definitely needing treatment and leaving me anxious about where my blood sugars (and weight) might trend.
The problem is that I'm also seeing numbers in the 200s sporadically. I think I'm able to pinpoint why these numbers are messing up my perfect range though.
