Imagine for a moment that I found a magic bottle with a a genie who popped out and offered me ten diabetes-related wishes (because I'm swell and clearly deserve more than three). Of course I wouldn't be allowed to just wish away my diabetes altogether. (It's the small print that gets you every time). I might ask the Beedies Genie for the following:
-- Hallucinogenic metformin.
-- A couch with special cushions that will make my body burn calories while I sit on my butt and watch Battlestar Galactica.
-- A super smart version of phentermine that can fool the body for longer than three months.
-- A line of Converse diabetic Chuck Taylors-- For that matter, any diabetic shoes that are both affordable and don't look like they were designed either for Peter Boyle in Young Frankenstein or the whole cast of Cocoon.
-- Mandarin Orange Propell at every beverage fountain. (READ MORE)

Today Susanne is meeting with the guidance counselor, Charlie’s teacher, the school nurse and the principal to go over our revised 504 plan. Someone from the district will also be there to make sure everything is legit. I wish I could be there with her but I can’t get out of work.
Sometimes I wonder if we’re going overboard with our 504 plan. It’s sounding less like a constructive 504 plan and more like an unreasonable list of demands.
Take item #4 for instance.

I wish.
I wish my pancreas worked properly. But the fact that it doesn't is not the first thing that comes to mind every morning. When I awaken, I am grateful, not sorrowful. Grateful for a good life, surrounded by people I love.
I wish that I hadn't met so many wonderful people BECAUSE we have diabetes. But I am so happy to know each of them. And they all have brought me great joy. There is really only one thing I would trade knowing them for (that fully functioning pancreas). And I would imagine that there is only one thing they would trade knowing me for. There is no fault in that.
I wish I didn't HAVE to wear an insulin pump. But I can't think of anything that makes my life easier and more healthful. And it is one of the gadgets that I truly couldn't get along without. (READ MORE)

In my last post, I gave some of my initial observations of the Android operating system, and how it relates to my cellphone smartphone as a personal-safety device. Now it's time to look at the potential of this device in the hands of some talented developers, and what it might be able to do for diabetes management.
I'm first beginning to wade through the Android/diabetes waters as I write this, so there's a good possibility that some of my wishlist items have already been created. (If you find them, please comment back!) To-date, I've found one comment thread in the "dLife Garage" forum and whatever a simple Google search is throwing at me.

Having diabetes has many challenges as we all know. Exercising, eating right, checking our blood glucose levels, taking medicines, seeing doctors regularly, and so many more that I cannot even think of. We are busy bees.
One thing I have found as a major challenge is not losing my cool with people who maybe don't understand this disease so I would like to clear up a few things.
1. Not all people with type 1 diabetes are thin.
I am on a weight loss program right now and frankly, the only time I have ever been thin in my life was the year or so before I was diagnosed and was losing weight like crazy.
2. Not all people with type 2 are overweight.
This one drives me nuts. It is true that weight loss can help your chances of not getting diabetes but there are other factors too. I think of my uncle who had lung cancer but never smoked a day in his life. Same sort of a thing.
3. People who take insulin are not out of control. (READ MORE)

Sadly, I've been watching a lot of TV lately. The whole no school and no job thing leaves me with a lot of free time. This morning I was watching the Today show. A segment on infertility came on as soon as I switched the TV on.
As a woman with type 1 diabetes, PCOS, and endometriosis, infertility has become a definite part of my vocabulary. No doctor has told me that I am infertile and I'm in no place to need to know. Infertility is just something that's been listed on my possible "side effects" and "symptoms" list and something that I've tossed over in my mind.

How many times a week or month do you receive a cookbook offer in the mail? I swear at times it seems like there's one in my mailbox every other day.
I really wish the distributors would stop sending me their envelopes full of enticing pictures of foods that I have no business eating. And I really, REALLY wish some of them would stop including a letter telling me how I can eat my way to a diabetes free life. I'm tempted to mail those back along with a letter telling them how full of crap they are. I haven't done that, yet, but I wouldn't put it past me.
Simply put: I Do Not Want Your Cookbook!

I am feeling a bit discouraged and overwhelmed today. Just a week ago I was high on getting my exercise in and then wham, I let it stop being top priority and it fell away.
I wish I could just wake up and eat what I like, not eat if I like, pretty much I'd like to do whatever I darn well please. I feel so much pressure. Pressure to eat right for the baby, eat right for the diabetes and weight thing, exercise, test at regular times, eat at regular times, log my eating, try to get enough sleep, write enough posts for here, etc., etc. I'd love to give up some sleep to get some things done, but that just messes with everything else I'm trying to do. I don't find it common place when I get excited about diabetes, but yesterday, oh boy. I had my first appointment with a new P.A. and I think I gave him a hand cramp!
This visit marked my first day with a new bout of medical pros. I signed up with a new primary doctor, new endocrinologist, new P.A., and even new crabby dr.'s office receptionists that somehow came with the package. (They are another story though). (READ MORE)
