All throughout my childhood I was extremely active. I was heavily involved in many sports. I continued to be active even after getting diabetes. Except having diabetes made things much more difficult. I would get so mad when people reacted negatively towards me. I would be playing in a tournament and someone would ask, "What are you eating that for"? It was very depressing seeing how they reacted when I told them why. Having to explain myself time after time got old quick. After I told them I was diabetic they never treated me the same. This type of treatment was exactly what I needed to kick my butt in gear. I was ready for a change. I didn't want to be treated differently any more. I was ready for something that I could do on my own time and feel good about. I wanted some respect!

Yesterday I talked about how weightlifting was my key to success. It helped improve my life with diabetes on so many levels. I also talked about how my training these days has evolved and become more specific to my ever changing needs.

I want this blog to be about you and your training. I want to use my Blogabetes entry today as a platform for all of you to give a brief description about the types of things that you are doing for your exercise. I understand that not everyone is going to have the same type of answer. I realize that some of you may hardly be doing anything. THAT IS OK! Some of you may be training for a marathon. Some of you may walk around your neighborhood each day. The point that I want to make here is that this IS A GREAT place for all of us to share with one another the types of things that we are doing and how they are affecting each of our lives.

As some of you may have read in my biography, I am very active. I really enjoy exercising. Really. I actually do enjoy it. And I am not talking about just getting on a treadmill everyday. Honestly, I haven't even been on a treadmill in months. I just love moving around. I have found it is great for my body and for my diabetes. I do so many things that I don't have enough room on this page to tell you about all of them. To name a few though, I particularly enjoy weight-lifting, martial arts and doing just about anything involved with the outdoors. (READ MORE)

Tonight we're meeting friends for dinner and a show at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia. Fantastic place to see live music if you ever have the opportunity. We're seeing a band called the Trashcan Sinatras, which you may have heard of if a.) You listened to alternative/college radio in the early 90s or b.) You're from Scotland. A great band.

 

I do hope we make it there. We can certainly use it. These rare night outs have a tendency to fall apart at the eleventh hour for one reason or another unfortunately. Charlie's recent trend of unexplained high blood sugars has us wondering if a virus is lurking within him, only to be revealed as we're walking out the door with keys in hand.

 

Susanne has changed his infusion site two times in the last two days to see if that was the source of the highs. Alas, no. The highs are coming no matter what.

 

We're both pretty frustrated.
