I have been conspicuously absent from these pages for a month now. My in-laws were staying with us for 2 weeks, but my writer's block started before their visit.
I just haven't had much to say. I have not followed through on my possible New Year's resolutions very well. I'm tired of posting my failures here. I will say that my exercise has picked up a bit from the past few months, but it's barely discernable.
My mother-in-law also has type 2 diabetes controlled by metformin. We were both "good" during her visit - which means no fancy desserts and minimal refined carbs. So no excitement there to report.
I haven't been testing my blood regularly. I know that's a diabetic sin, but thanks to last year's weight loss, my numbers have really come down which is a good thing, but makes testing 2x a day rather boring. (READ MORE)

The last blog I wrote was called, "Life Changing Events" and it got a lot of comments from a variety of different people. I really do appreciate the feedback I get from each of you. One of the reasons why I enjoy seeing your comments is it allows me to respond back to each of you and I think having the ability to interact and reach out to one another is key. Another reason why it is good to leave a comment is because other users, who are on this site, can see and respond back to your comments as well. This generates discussions and helps people share their feelings on different topics. This way, hopefully, little is overlooked when discussing an important or relevant issue to you.

It's that time of year again -- time to report on this year's results of the WebWarren Cookie Laboratories.
Lest you think I've had a bit too much of the nonexistent "adult" eggnog (or given the outdoor temperatures, the nonexistent hot toddy), The Other Half's parents like to have several varieties of cookies on hand for Christmas Day visitors (i.e., the entire extended family) -- and with his mother no longer able to do the sort of baking she once did, we try to take up a bit of the slack. The first time we did cookie baking up here, I was trying to develop some new cookie recipes, and we brought down the results in a carton repurposed with Christmas wrapping paper and labeled "WEBWARREN COOKIE LABS -- EXPERIMENTAL SAMPLES". The name -- and the mock pretentiousness -- stuck. While were not able to get down south this year, the Cookie Labs have been in full force.

When The Mr. and I made our offical decision to move from mid-Missouri to Phoenix in 2008 I began searching hard for jobs in my field. It was challenging -- at least from my perspective -- to get employers to even consider me since I was not local.
There was one employer that I was really interested in and who was clearly interested in me because they arranged a conference call interview between three cities and more than three people. It was a position as a senior editor for a publications company. They created, edited and produced things like visitors guides for a number of cities. It, frankly, seemed like a cushy, right-up-my-alley job.
I was disappointed when they decided to go with someone who had more experience supervising. But they kept me in mind for freelance proofing jobs and I even convinced them pretty quickly to give me a shot at that.

It has been a long time since I had a hypoglycemia-related seizure. Over a year. This, compared to monthly convulsive insulin reactions when I was in my twenties and early thirties. I am thankful for a break which appears to have some promise of permanence. But a break doesn't eliminate fear.Â
My roommate heads back to Texas tomorrow morning. Leaving me with this apartment, and on my own for the first time ever. I have to admit, the idea of an apartment of my own is in some ways very nice.  Space. Time. Quiet. Peace. But I am also terrified. Afraid that diabetes and its accompanying life-threatening dangers will visit in the night. Â
