Here it comes. The flood of tears that I couldn't hold back anymore. I could feel it way back in there but thought they would pass.
The Mr. calls and can hear the stress in my voice and I don't try to hide it.
"What's wrong," he wants to know.
"I have no idea," I say. "I guess it's hormones. I just feel like I'm going to cry and I have absolutely no tolerance for the kids acting like... kids. I just want it to be quiet and for everyone to follow directions the first time and to not have to tell anyone to STOP IT! or to SIT DOWN AND FINISH EATING. Basically I want to relinquish my Mom Duties for a while."

Being a dad with diabetes can have some affects on your family that you may have not thought about. I always show and explain as much as I can about my type 1 diabetes to my children, but there are times that my diabetes shows its ugly face in their lives.
Like this story:
I remember back to an event at our church when my son was five. It was a neighborhood fair and there were games, food, and bounce houses of every style you can think of. Each of the church members was asked to bring a dessert or casserole to share. Well, one family brought a huge box of individual wrapped Twinkies.
My son comes running over to me and asked if he can have one and of course I said okay. He grabbed a package of yellow squishy goodness and brought it over to us so we could help him get it open. As I am opening the package I can see his little eyes staring in wonderment at this very strange looking cake-like sort of thing.
I ask, "Have you ever had a Twinkie?" (READ MORE)

Hey y'all. Guess y'all heard the news. I'm sorta busted up. Turns out we picked up a nasty case of the diabeetus. I just wanted to reach out to all my fans out there and give an update on my current medical status. Well, it's a slow go y'all, but I'm on my meds and feeling much better.
The way I understand it, y'all is this - Paula's body is hollerin' for some insulin but there's like a giant wall of gunk standing betwixt me and that signal. I'm just not gettin' that message, y'all. This is just a theory of mine but I think it's related to an intrinsic membrane glycoprotein and serine exopeptidase that cleaves X-proline dipeptides from the N-terminus of polypeptides. Y'all.

After several days of using relatively unused abdominal real estate for my infusion sites, I've determined that I had most likely worn out the prime spots, which resulted in some pretty horrendous blood sugar spikes. I guess I should have known it would happen.
I have tried in the past to move my sites around. I've gradually moved toward my love handles, I've moved north before, I've even tried a thigh site with less than desirable results. In fact, the results were terrible. Terrible enough that I either yanked the sites after just a few hours or went back to the tried and true spots.
Perhaps I should have been more patient. (Story of my life, right?)

Whether or not we recognize it explicitly, we are all caregivers (aka, T3s). Whether we serve a family member, someone in our neighborhood or church, or just others on the dLife forums and in the dLife community, we are each part of someone else's diabetes support team.
