Due to the overwhelming popularity of my first diabetes Mad Lib, I've decided to take another crack at it.
That's, uh, sarcasm.
You guys like totally blew me off.
That's OK though. I've only grown stronger from your rejection. (READ MORE)

I've been hit! I've been hit! I called out sick for second straight day. My wife has me quarantined in my 8-year-old daughter's room since she has already been contaminated after seven straight days. I know I'm feeling a little loopy from the medication, but if Zac Efron and Harry Potter keep staring at me all sexylike, I swear I'm gonna pop them both in the jaw.
On to the Mad Libs. The submissions were fantastic! Great words, everyone. Thanks for playing. I should note that I did take the liberty of striking a minor two lines from my original Mad Lib because it just didn't work well at all. So, a couple of your words didn't make the final cut. Sorry about that. They were all so good, I plan to post each one. So, if you don't see yours in this post, look for it in the coming days.

It took a good part of the baseball season, but the kids on Charlie's baseball team finally discovered that their hard-hitting catcher has diabetes. For the most part, we are fairly discreet about it. Charlie will run over to me if he feels low. The kids in the dugout are generally too busy using each other's heads for batting practice to notice anything out of the ordinary.
This time, Charlie was high heading into the game and I wanted to get his blood sugar before he came up in the batting order. Outside the chain fence dugout, I asked Charlie to stick his finger through. Soon a flock of Little Leaguers converged on the scene and watched with mouths open as if witnessing the birth of baby unicorns.
"What are you doing to him?" one perplexed kid asked.
"Well, Danny, Charlie really should have made that catch, so .... ya know ... punishment."

I remember posters of dull needles from the pediatric endo's office. The difference between a new needle and the old was always quite disgusting. The old was frayed, with shards of metal sticking out abnormally. It was definitely a good way to scare a teenager into changing lancets and syringes on a regular basis.
The bad thing was that I never remembered that poster after I left the doctor's office. I'd go back to my usual routine. I wouldn't change the lancet until someone reminded me. I'd use a syringe repeatedly, until the numbers wore down or the needle bent. It could be days before I'd even think about switching it out...after multiple uses per day.
It's a bad diabetes habit that I'm in. I try to be better...I put extra lancets and syringes in my meter kit. I try to make schedules, changing them on Sundays or once a night or on the 1st of the month. Anything to make the habit more often than it is.
