One of our readers, Teresa, has some questions for the Blogabetes readers about diabetic retinopathy. Has anyone had retinopathy surgery and can share their experiences with Teresa?
"I have a question that I was unable to find an answer for, and couldn't figure out how to post a new blog. I have type 1 diabetes and have had it for over 30 years. I have retinopathy and have had many surgeries. I now have cataracts as a secondary problem of the surgeries and my doc wants to remove them, I have done some fairly extensive research on the two (retinopathy and cataracts) and have found that most articles agree that cataract surgery speeds up the process of retinopathy. Has anyone here had this surgery as a person also with retinopathy?
Does anyone know more about the complications?

Kelly Nykaza’s daughter Leah was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes one year ago. On the topic of continuous glucose monitoring, Leah says, "other than changing it, it’s pretty good."

Pretty incredible coming from a 5 year old.

If you are like us and you are wondering if the time is right to consider continuous glucose monitoring for your child, this is an interview you’ll want to read.

We’re very fortunate for people in the online diabetes community like Kelly, who are willing to share their experiences with us so that perhaps our road may not be quite so bumpy.

I have to admit that I get buyer's remorse quite a bit. I don't know what it is. I do have a tendency to be indecisive at times, but who isn't?
So several weeks ago, you'll recall reading that I was hot to trot to get the Omnipod. I scoured the company's web site. I e-mailed my endo and asked if he had any patients on the Omnipod who I could talk to. I asked my friends at Diabetic Mommy if anyone was on it and if they could give me their experience.
The web site didn't have the type of personal experiences I was looking for (i.e. Just exactly how do you sleep with it?). My endo doesn't have any patients on it, and there were only about two mommies at DM who are on it. (READ MORE)

Fitness for any single person, diabetic or not, has to be specific and individually appropriate. I am an ACE certified personal trainer. ACE stands for the American Council on Exercise. I have been in the gym business for many years. I have trained hundreds of people and helped or offered advice to thousands. I have worked in five different gyms over the course of my career and I have trained myself ever since I was about fourteen, basically ever since my body decided that it was time to become diabetic. I have been learning from my own experiences, as well as gathering knowledge from every source imaginable.

Greetings everyone!
My name is Mike Durbin, and I am excited to be joining the team of writers here at Blogabetes.  I've been living with type 2 diabetes and congestive heart failure (CHF) since I was diagnosed on December 29, 2008.  I was 24 at the time.
Notice that I said living with type 2 diabetes and CHF. Despite how difficult and scary the last year and a half has been, with adjusting to a new way of living and the near death experiences I've faced, I’ve not stopped living.  If anything, there's more liveliness in me now than there ever was before.  It's amazing how it takes a near death experience to make you realize just how precious life is and how important it is to live each day to the fullest.  We never know when we might reach out last.

Back in February 2008, I started blogging for dLife. I'd written my own blogs before, but only on things like Xanga or Blogger or Facebook. It was never something that I could tally hundreds of people reading. And it certainly wasn't something visited by the very specialists themselves (by specialists, I mean each and every diabetic reading these posts).

When I first started, I thought I'd do fine. After all, I was a natural born writer. I loved to write. And diabetes seemed like an easy topic. But over the first months, I realized how hard it can be to put my diabetes life out there.

I generally consider myself to be fairly mature for my age. I've attributed my maturity to the experiences I've been through, mostly from dealing with a chronic illness from such a young age. It definitely puts a different spin on your whole life. You consider life as temporary, something to be cherished. You know you don't have all the time in the world.

Despite the maturity, I've still got growing up to do. There are things that diabetes and all my other experiences haven't taught me. I still have the passion and will of my youth to contend against on a regular basis. I'm holding on to pieces of that youth for good reason, seeing where maturity can change life for the worse in some ways.

I stood over them, staring like an obsessed fan. The sun was just beginning to rise and there was a hint of pink light in the room.

5:30 a.m. and I was already running several minutes late.

The Mr., who doesn't have to go to work today, was snuggling with No. 3, who came in minutes before saying, "Mom, can I sweep wish you?" I pulled her close to me, smelled her hair and marveled at how soft her skin is.

I forced myself out of bed. I had a wonderful walk yesterday morning, had hardly walked at all the week before. So tired... I've never been a morning person. Even though I'm already out of bed and brushing my teeth, I still look for excuses not to go.

For the past week, I've been working in the Human Resources department of a local company. It's a two week stint to give me a better idea if HR is where I want to head after college. Plus it gives me some experience on my resume in case that is the career path that I choose. And with new experiences come new diabetes issues.

The first day, I came prepared for all sorts of blood sugar problems. I had no idea what kind of work I'd be doing, if they had a soda machine, or what kind of environment it would be. I packed several juice boxes along with plenty of water and some snacks. All that on top of my lunch.
