Due to the overwhelming popularity of my first diabetes Mad Lib, I've decided to take another crack at it.
That's, uh, sarcasm.
You guys like totally blew me off.
That's OK though. I've only grown stronger from your rejection. (READ MORE)

I've been hit! I've been hit! I called out sick for second straight day. My wife has me quarantined in my 8-year-old daughter's room since she has already been contaminated after seven straight days. I know I'm feeling a little loopy from the medication, but if Zac Efron and Harry Potter keep staring at me all sexylike, I swear I'm gonna pop them both in the jaw.
On to the Mad Libs. The submissions were fantastic! Great words, everyone. Thanks for playing. I should note that I did take the liberty of striking a minor two lines from my original Mad Lib because it just didn't work well at all. So, a couple of your words didn't make the final cut. Sorry about that. They were all so good, I plan to post each one. So, if you don't see yours in this post, look for it in the coming days.

For a while there, I was really starting to think Charlie was going to use his super diabetes powers to keep the flu at bay. I was hoping for some irony. Maybe the kid with D would be the only one in the household left standing.
No such luck. Charlie is on day two of what has become known as "The Great Ass Whoopin' of 2008." Or the somber yet simple, "March Sadness." I estimate that we'll see the light at the end of the tunnel by sometime in July.
Now Charlie has even more numbers surrounding him. And this has me confused.
Susanne tells me he's 102 and I think, wow! Pretty good considering he has the flu. Unfortunately she's referring to his body temperature and not his blood sugar. "Oh, blood sugar? You don't want to know that," she says. (READ MORE)

Hey all you people with diabetes! Do you want to have some diabetes fun? I said, DO YOU WANT TO HAVE SOME DIABETES FUN? Er, no, not that kind of fun. Please put those away, miss. I'm talking Mad Libs - type 1 and type 2 versions. Who's in?
Cool. First thing: DO NOT READ THE MAD LIB BELOW. Well, not yet. That would sort of ruin it. Grab a piece of paper and give me the following in this order:
A number Plural noun Adjective Adjective Body part Liquid Adverb Silly noise Adverb Measurement Adjective Noun Number Food Animal Occupation Plural noun Liquid Body part Food Food Activity
Great. Well done. Now fill in the blanks and let's see those zany methods of testing one's blood sugar. I'd love to read some of your results. Charlie's was very funny.

Lieutenant Frog Skin, Lieutenant Seaweed , grab a helmet, a rifle and fall in. We strike at dawn.
Just when I was starting to worry that a cure was very, very far off, I just received word from the battlefields that these two brave new recruits have joined the ranks in the fight against diabetes. But fear not. They are not alone. Broken into platoons via category, our army looks like this:
Foods: grapes, brown rice, pumpkins, honey, black tea, red wine, bitter melon
Animals: pigs, lizard spit, mice, frog skin
Plants: seaweed wrap, doob (aka common green grass)
All fighting diabetes. We should be fine.
As promised, here is the last of the diabetes Mad Libs entries. This one comes from Penny. (READ MORE)

It's been ages since I posted here. My life has been chaotic and, frankly, I haven't had much to write about anywhere online.

We had to switch endocrinologists recently because our health insurance won't cover Olivia's doctors at Joslin. Olivia and I both hate it but we can't afford to pay out of pocket to see Dr. R so we've switched to UMass.

Our initial appointment was with an awful doctor who left us waiting for three hours in the exam room and offered no apology when he finally came in. He got all snotty with me when I expressed my annoyance. He kept calling me "mom." Dood, unless you came out of my womb, you don't call me mom, capiche?

Gene Rayburn with his long 1970s microphone and his swank three-piece suits. I imagine he stunk of cigarettes and scotch as he'd lean into the contestants, awaiting their dirty answers. Raunchy double-entendres from Charles Nelson Reilly and an irresistibly funky theme song. It was smutty stuff for sure, but I loved Match Game back in the day.

It's been a while since we've played some diabetes fun 'n games. Last year's Fantasy Diabetes League (FDL) brought out the competitive spirit of the online diabetes community and the diabetes version of Mad Libs was a lot of fun.
