How is it that I went through this holiday season with zero visits to the gym and eating a ton of calories - with a net weight gain of only 1/2 pound and a meter average of 133 mg/dl?
If I knew the answer to that question, I'd be rich.
I'd bottle the secret and sell it. Well, I'd give it to you if I knew and liked you, but mostly I'd sell it. And probably eat the profits. And you know, that wouldn't be a big deal, because I'd have the secret.
I've got some theories....
Karma? I'm pretty nice. And I've mostly been good this year in terms of diet and exercise. Perhaps I'm reaping the karmic benefits of my past good deeds and behaviors?

First off, let me say that in my New Year's Eve post, I said IF I were going to make resolutions, those would be mine! I gave myself an out already!
I could keep this information to myself but I know it will only fester. I would then feel the need to lie about my health plans, etc, etc. In the interests of dieting naked, I will be honest.
I have gained 10 pounds from my lowest weight of 2007, last seen at the end of October. (READ MORE)

The last few weeks have been a major struggle with my weight. The week before finals (first week of December), I noticed that my weight was slowly climbing. Not much, but enough to make me worry. Two weeks later (bringing us to this weekend), I've gained two pounds.
I know two pounds isn't that much, but this time I feel like it's twenty pounds. I'm noticing it in my face, in my legs, in my hands. No one else seems to notice, so I'm sure this is just my self-image taking a nasty turn. But no matter what, I'm still bothered by it.

I've been mysteriously absent from the blogging world again. My apologies! I've been busy with baby and holidays, and keeping myself healthy despite the viral-cold-winds that are a-blowing. With a school teacher husband, it's hard to keep germs out of the house!
I thought I'd touch base with a quick recap of the last few weeks.
I took the month of December off of blood sugar management to focus on weight loss. I rejoined Weight Watchers (I'm a lapsed lifer) and found a meeting that's more like family with a great leader, Kim. Despite the holidays, I managed to stick to the program. (READ MORE)

I've put off starting Metformin for several months. I just don't want to risk the nausea and tummy troubles that so many people have on it. I hate being nauseous. It's the one sickness that I really don't do well with at all. Give me pain, but don't make my stomach hurt.
Each week is passing with highs that don't budge, injection after injection trying to compensate, weight gain, and the occasional hormone-related breakout. Some of that I know is my fault. But some is completely out of my control and most likely due to the insulin resistance that goes along with PCOS.
I'd love to have the kind of diabetes that stays steady and runs normal. Like my dad. He barely struggles with anything over 180. He doesn't even count carbs, although he does maintain a fairly strict low carb diet. But even when he splurges, he does not see numbers like I do. And I'm sick of that.

Just a few days to go until Halloween; the first of the food holidays. The stores have been stocked with trick or treat candy since Labor Day. I have fallen for that trap before - buy treats for the kiddos in early October, then again the next week and again the next because the candy keeps getting eaten up. The past 2 years I got wiser and don't buy the Halloween candy until less than 5 days to go. (That's not as smart as it sounds since we have not had a single trick or treater since we moved into this house in the woods 4 years ago!) (READ MORE)

I went for my 6 month endo appt week before last. I finally got my bloodwork back in the mail. That's one thing I really dislike about my doctor. I think it would be so much more effective to have the test results in front of us for the discussion.
By the way, where I write "doctor", feel free to substitute "physcian's assistant". As with most doctors who are in demand, he has 4 PAs that also see patients. The office tells you that you can make appointments with anyone, but if you want to see the actual MD, it takes a couple more months of waiting or accepting the oddball times, like 7:45 am on a Monday or 11:55 on a Friday - they close at noon on Fridays.
My HbA1c went up from 5.5 to 5.7. I realize that is still an awesome result and nothing to complain about, but I'm sure it's directly related to the 12 lbs I have gained in the past 6 months. That dreaded holiday weight that I was so afraid of? Yes, that would be about 8 of those pounds. (READ MORE)
