I hate exercising. I should rephrase that. I hate typical exercise. You know what I mean. Stuff like lifting weights, stair steppers, treadmills, those scary machines, aerobics, jazzercise, and pretty much all the stuff you see at the typical "gym."
And that is the other part of it. Every gym in my neck of the woods feels like you can not enter until you are fit and trim. So yours truly who has a long way to go would feel very out of place until I was a total lean mean D machine.
Of course being a "born again diabetic" I know that exercise needs and should be a part of my daily routine. So how do I make the non-existent gym rat in my come out?
Simple, I find something that I actually like to do and run with that! (READ MORE)

Wow, what a storm that was started recently on my co-bloggers page. I have the utmost respect for you Michelle and your passion, writing ability, your life and even your disgust with diabetes when you wrote that blog. Please know this. I HAVE WRITTEN these types in the past too (when I was off). But you, and all the people that commented on your blog who, too, agree’d with your sentiment of “hating diabetes”, could not have proved a point with any clearer of an example of how out of touch we get with ourselves and life from time to time. This is ok, this is normal. It happens. But what you do with it when your faced with it, is what makes the difference and what can take you from a life of peace, or heaven, and true existence - to a place of hell, or unbalance, or non-peace.

I believe a good workout comes with sweat. Which is why I don’t exercise during my lunch break and also why I prefer to exercise first thing in the morning.

 

I prefer to do my exercise walking outside. Using a treadmill is a last resort for me. I’m one of those weird people who’s more likely to exercise if it means I *don’t* have to go to the gym.

 

I’ve written a number of times lately about being committed to figuring out how to fit exercise into my schedule. The farthest I’ve gotten is the part where I say I’m going to think about it. But I’m getting fluffy and clothes that used to fit beautifully aren’t so much any more. Plus, I feel good when I exercise.

Kerri, our buddy ol' pal here at Blogabetes, sent us bloggers some writing prompts the other day. One prompt that hit home with me was writing about what people can do during these cold months to stay active and keep the pounds off. It is a natural process for us as humans to throw on a few extra lbs as the cold weather starts to approach. With that in mind, I for one, really enjoy working out in MY VERY OWN LIVING ROOM. Even as dedicated as some of us are to working out, it is still a pain to get out into the cold. Nobody likes running to their car, scraping the ice off, and waiting for it warm up just to drive to the gym!! It is hard enough for people to be motivated on the warm days. That's where your living room and your creativity come into play.

Man, are my legs killing me. I can barely walk down the stairs while carrying an almost 15 pound baby. What in the world could have made me so sore? I haven't been to the gym or done any exercise videos. But I have not been this sore since I can't remember when.
Then it hits me. We bought a Wii over the weekend. Determined to use the purchase for good, I've been making sure to move as much as possible while playing games. The "purpose" was to get us off the couch and get some "exercise". I just never thought it would work this well.
So far, my favorite game is bowling. I'm not a good bowler in real life, and I'm not a great virtual bowler either. But it's still fun (and somehow I still manage to throw gutter bowls?). My own mother who has never played a video game in her life totally kicks my tail in Wii bowling, too. (READ MORE)

The other night two of my buddies and I met up for a night of Racquetball and dinner together. This, like Disc Golf, has become a new obsession with me. It is yet another way for me to find a fun way to exercise. I think about playing all day long! It truly has become an obsession.
My favorite thing about Racquetball is the amount of sweat I produce. When you are exercising and sweating, you just know that you are doing something positive. Albeit, I am usually short of breath, slow to get to the ball, rarely win a game, and take breaks often, I still cannot get enough. Each time we play I find I can play harder longer. (READ MORE)

Working out with a stability, or Swiss ball, is an awesome way to get a good workout. If you're not familiar with what a stability ball is, then you can look it up on your computer or stop by a sport store. They are large rubber balls that allow you to work on numerous things. Their sizes range from 35 cm to 85 cm depending on the types of movements you want to do. Some of the benefits include balance, stability and core exercises, and they are also great to stretch on. Brynn just bought one for relatively cheap at our local Wal-Mart. If you decide to buy one, you have the option of purchasing the nicer name brand models, but from my experience, a rubber ball is a rubber ball. Anyway, this morning, I found myself working out on our stability ball and it felt wonderful!

Some days it seems the world is ganging up on me. Since my baby was born, I have read something about the importance of exercise nearly every day. Even USA Weekend has a column this week about exercise as a weapon to fight Type 2 diabetes.
30 minutes a day at least 5 days a week - that's what everyone says. How hard is that to fit in? To judge by my life, you'd think it was an unachievable goal.
I easily waste 30 minutes a day (probably several times) that could be diverted to exercise. What I've been reading tells me that I can even break it into 3 10-minute segments. I live in a semi-rural area where I can safely walk with no problem. I own a dozen or more exercise DVDs, and the stability ball, yoga mat, hand weights and elastic bands to go with them. I haven't had much to write about lately, on any of the blogs I contribute to. I don't know if it's burn out or the winter that never ends or what, but I'm definitely feeling a lot of ennui. Malaise. A complete lack of ability to write anything resembling sense.

So I thought I'd open it up and see if there's anything you want to ask me or have questions about. I know, kind of lame, but I need a good, hard shove to get the ball rolling again.

I've been going to the Y for the last month or so. I do Nautilus weights and cardio stuff for about an hour and half, five days a week. I haven't lost any weight, which is kind of depressing, but I feel better. Stronger. It's good. Olivia's been wanting to take swimming lessons, so when those open again, I'm going to sign her up. She really needs to do some sort of exercise. Right now, all she does is walk the dog.

Since gaining twenty extra pounds in 2006 (due to my insane hormones and PCOS diagnosis), I've had ups and downs in trying to get back to my high school weight and back in my favorite pair of jeans. I let the pounds pile on for awhile before deciding to do much about it. And when I started to care, it seemed more trouble than it was worth.

 

In the spring of 2007, I tried jogging on a regular basis. I didn't lose any weight. Over that next year, I tried eating a little better and going to the gym with a friend. Still nothing.

 

In the summer of 2008, I had a breakthrough (with the help of the bio-identical hormones getting my body slowly back in order). I spent two to three days a week at the gym and lost about six pounds. I never got into a smaller size, but I loved feeling like my body could handle the basics of living.
