Too often, we look at the 7-day, 14-day, and 30-day trends on our blood glucose monitors, see numbers that look great (or horrid), and rather than seeing an A1c that confirms those readings, we get a number that would appear to have come completely out of left field. (Or Mars. Or the Andromeda Galaxy. It's hard to say exactly where.) We can either scratch our heads and wonder why the numbers aren't correlating, or we can take out our manual readings logs, our meter downloads, our CGM downloads, and our personal journals and try to figure "what we are doing wrong".

A couple days earlier we had talked about the continuous glucose monitor. His eyes lit up when I explained it to him. For an obsessively compulsive control freak like Charlie, I was describing the Holy Grail.
Charlie would control time and space if the powers of nature would allow it. And with his telemarketer-like persistence, he just may some day. As it is now, he’s a walking, talking Timex. With a glance downward to his pump, he is quick to remind me when I’m three minutes late for just about everything.
To know what his blood sugar is all the time? To use the pump screen as leverage when making a case for a snack? Charlie saw endless possibilities.

Last weekend I joined many other computer and radio hobbyists at the Trenton Computer Festival for two days of talks, workshops, and parts-vendors. While I was not on the program this year, I found a number of interesting presentations offered, and I spent much of the weekend attending talks. Two of the themes explored were security and privacy, and communicating with nontraditional devices wirelessly using Internet protocols.

I've had so many lows lately that I can't explain, I'm quite disgusted with my diabetes at the moment. I'm not catching most of them before dropping into the 50 or 40 range, plus several have happened overnight. Then tonight, I indulged with sweet and sour chicken and my blood sugar soared into the 300s before I could catch it.
I'm typically pretty dedicated to testing. I go through test strips quickly. My lancet always needs to be changed. The meter certainly gets its use. But sometimes, I just don't feel like checking. Or sometimes, I'm just not in a place to check. Sometimes I'm sleeping.
