For a variety of reasons that all add up to a perfect storm of unfortunate for yours truly, I have gone off my diabetes medications and shall be off of them for a few days. I ran out of both at the same time, and it happened on a weekend, and a holiday weekend, no less, so there was no one at my doctor's office to call. Furthermore, if I'd been paying attention (and really, why would I? It's only my health we're talking about here), I would have seen that I had no more refills on my prescription, meaning that in order to get more, I would need to make an appointment and go in to see my doctor again, which of course I should have done a few months ago, but my book came out and I've been busy being Mister Fancy Pants, etc. etc. etc., blah blah blah. Really, there are a number of excuses, but they all come down to my own personal dedication to being the very best cautionary tale I can be for the rest of you. No need to thank me, I do it out of love.

Coffea Arabica, cup o'joe, java, brew, jamocha, mud, caffiene, cafe au lait, espresso, cappachino, latte, breve - you name it - I
LOVE it. They
CANNOT have my coffee!
It used to be that coffee
lowered your risk of type 2 diabetes. Go ahead and get hooked on it, but once you get that diagnosis, now you gotta go
cold turkey.
I'm sure you've seen the
news to which I'm referring. It's
also here. (READ MORE)
Kerri, our buddy ol' pal here at Blogabetes, sent us bloggers some writing prompts the other day. One prompt that hit home with me was writing about what people can do during these cold months to stay active and keep the pounds off. It is a natural process for us as humans to throw on a few extra lbs as the cold weather starts to approach. With that in mind, I for one, really enjoy working out in MY VERY OWN LIVING ROOM. Even as dedicated as some of us are to working out, it is still a pain to get out into the cold. Nobody likes running to their car, scraping the ice off, and waiting for it warm up just to drive to the gym!! It is hard enough for people to be motivated on the warm days. That's where your living room and your creativity come into play.

It's 10:30 p.m.
I'm in bed. In my night shirt.
I'm coughing, although I took (sugar-free) cough syrup.
I'm in bed.
I check my sugar.
76.
Crap. I can't go to bed this low.
But I'm already
in bed.
I'm tired.
I'm coughing.
Must get up early to go to mass with No. 1.
Can't convince myself to go downstairs and drink a glass of milk.
Because I'm already in bed.
The floor is cold.
I'm coughing and tired.
The milk is downstairs.
My bed is warm.
The kitties are snuggly.
Now would be a nice time to see a
trend line.
I took the sensor off five hours ago.
I'm. Already. In. Bed.
Waking in a cold sweat will not be fun.
The milk is downstairs.
My cough medicine isn't working.
Rain is soothing and wants me to go to sleep.
My bed is warm.
The floor is cold.

Sitting at my desk Friday afternoon around 4 p.m., I was talking to one of the girls in the office. She sounded a little nasal. I thought to myself that it had been a long while since I could remember having a cold.
And it was like fate was listening to me right then because within an hour I was home, and sneezing! I knew a cold was coming. By the time I went to bed that night I knew things would be much worse in the morning. With hindsight being so in focus, I should have known something was up. For several days prior to getting this full blown cold, my sugars were unexpectedly high.
I had already decided that I wasn't going to walk Saturday morning because I was taking the kids to an air show at our small airport; we were meeting other people there at 8:30 and I wanted to sleep in just a bit. At the time I made this decision I wasn't sick, so I thought I would only miss one day of walking.

I'm (cough) just wondering a few things about your products (sniffle). You see, before I had diabetes, I had many, many wonderful choices of cough drop flavors to help me get through a cold or even to ease the pain of a scratchy throat (blow nose). Now, though, I'm limited to a very few, select flavors in your sugar-free line.
(sneeze) And while we're on the topic of your sugar-free line, can you kindly explain why there are fewer cough drops per bag than the sugar-filled variety? Why (sniffle) do I have to pay the same amount for fewer pieces of relief? (cough) Furthermore, can you tell me why the "value pack" of your regular variety has 80 drops and the "value pack" of the sugar-free drops has only 70 and I pay the same amount (coughcough)?

yesterday's post I talked about going to my first insulin pump class. I said that I was a little leery about going and that I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, after spending about three hours learning about the pump I'm still not sure. I guess I'm just not ready to switch over to this method of diabetes control. I still can't imagine being hooked to that little thing all the time! I realize that I could still remove it and go back to the manual injection routine, I'm JUST NOT READY YET. One thing I did learn was that I might be ready for an "insulin pen".

Many of you know that I am and have been on
Weight Watchers for a while now. The last time I weighed in I was down
36 pounds. People have asked me if my insulin needs have changed at all but strangely enough, I have not noticed any change. Until now.
