His knees are bent.
Like a frog.
His nostril whistles.
He sleeps peacefully.
He's 56.
"Charlie," I whisper into the dead of night, giving him a slight nudge.
The ceiling fan hums.
"Charlie, you're low. Have some juice."
"Charlie!"
So many nights I've whispered these words into his sleeping ears. So many nights for four-and-a-half years. So many nights Susanne has. So many nights other moms and dads around the world whisper the very same words to their children in the darkness. We need a cure.

"I have that," the birthday girl's grandmother said to me, pointing at the contents of Charlie's diabetes bag as the cake entered the room.
She wore earrings the size of donuts and called me "sweetie."

Meanwhile I was on the phone with Susanne discussing the dimensions of the cake and signaling the young kids distributing the cake to hold off on the piece for Charlie.

Typically, I put in a new infusion site and leave the old site in for a few hours. I rarely have a bad transition. Occasionally, the site will hurt or feel uncomfortable so I replace it with a new one. Even on those occasions, it's immediate so I don't peak from the bad site.
But the last two sites have given me some trouble. I'm rotating like normal, still leaving my old site in for at least two hours, and making sure there isn't any pain. I'm still seeing numbers soar into the 200's without a true cause within several hours of replacing my site. And each time, I've replaced the site on the third high reading and come down within a few hours to a normal range.
