We found 10 result(s) that match your search "awareness":When you see the check-mark-y swoosh, you think Nike, right? An apple gets you the computer company, golden arches make you think of cheesburgers, a peacock will have you thinking Must See TV, a red cross... you get the picture.
And when it comes to health there are several very recognizable symbols of support, perhaps the most popular is the pink ribbon for breast cancer. I was doing some research today on breast cancer and realized that the pink ribbon is quite possibly the only symbol synonymous with only one health condition. Even the red ribbon went from AIDS to a host of other causes.
You see a pink ribbon you instantly think breast cancer; you see a red, green or yellow ribbon and you have to do some thinking or asking. While many diabetes organizations and associations have their own symbols, there is not one that is universal for diabetes.

National Diabetes Awareness Month is here! Yep, it's November already. My birthday is right around the corner, along with Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving. November is a busy, busy month.
But most importantly, it is Diabetes Awareness Month. Fall Walks are happening every weekend. World Diabetes Day takes place. And people advocate our disease.
On Saturday, I'll be participating in the local JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes with several friends. We raised over $450 for the walk. It's my first walk so I'm very excited to see how it works and meet all the people there.

Last week when I suggested that the diabetes community design an awareness symbol akin to the breast cancer campaign's pink ribbon, I apparently hit a nerve with someone.
Nordtorp says he's not into the secret handshake thing and that ribbons and pins don’t make a difference. He doesn't think that wearing a trinket will cause more money to be funnelled into diabetes research.
I have to say that I whole-heartedly disagree. If someone asked you what are the major illnesses -- chronic or otherwise -- that affect the U.S. population, would the common person identify diabetes as one of them? Without a connection to diabetes, I doubt it. Does the common person even really understand what diabetes is? Not many.

Today the world unites as one as we celebrate and promote WDD awareness. Frankly, it's about time it got the recognition it deserves.
Since its inception in 1998, the Washington Dentists Directory (WDD) has been the premier destination for professional dentist profiles and patient reviews in Washington state. Dental offices throughout Washington will show their support today by illuminating their offices in blue - the official color of floss.
Wait, what?
You say WDD is World Diabetes Day?
Oh.

My dad. Two childhood friends. My best friend’s sister. My ex-boyfriend’s father. Even my aunt’s cat. It seems that everywhere I turn diabetes is following me. As I progress through life, one by one people along the way are being diagnosed with diabetes.
I understand that having any type of disease or syndrome causes you to become more aware when people mention that specific disease or syndrome. But sometimes, it seems that diabetes isn’t just on my mind. It’s literally following me, taking down people in its path (or in my path).
