Up and down. That's the way it's been lately. Numbers are up, numbers are down, nothing is making sense, patterns are confusing, emotions are frustrating. I've seen some wildly high numbers in the past week or two that are completely blowing my mind. Go to bed at 109 mg/dl, but wake up at 5 am in the 300's.

Getting your kid pumped up about a pump is an odd thing. I mean, it is still a medical device after all - and a rather crude one at that. It’s not a box of Star Wars Legos. That’s for sure.
And the way Charlie runs away from the thing on site change day, you’d think I’m asking him to choose which bully he’d like to strap on 24/7.
Still, I do it anyway, thankful that he thinks getting a new pump is cool. The alternative would suck. I call Charlie over to look at the new pump he’ll be getting on the computer screen.
"Charlie! Wanna see your new pump??? Ooh! These are cool. I like the color "smoke." What do you think?"
My enthusiasm is possibly too over the top.
He chooses "smoke" and walks away, not nearly as into it as I thought he’d be.

I visited my endocrinologist recently. Actually, I visited one of his Nurse Practioners. I was more than a little nervous, because my weight was up a tad, after promising to lower it again, and my exercise had been non-existant. (also again).

I went to pick up a basketball hoop I found on craigslist. It was in pretty good shape. The couple, maybe in their mid-40s, only used it when their niece and nephew visited. We spent about an hour and a half trying to get that behemoth into my car. Not fun.
As I was tying down the base of the hoop, which stuck out the back of the car slightly, the woman approached me, asking how long I've had diabetes.
"Sorry?"
I had no idea where was she getting this from.
"Oh, the decal?" I asked.
It being my wife's car, I forgot she had an "I Love a Child with Juvenile Diabetes" magnet stuck to the back of the car. A much more heartfelt message than the one on my car that says "I'd Love my Child more if He Didn't Have Diabetes."
