On dLife's Facebook page, the following question is posed:
There is no doubt that doctors are key to success in maintaining your diabetes. However, not all doctors have diabetes. There are some things that even doctors do not know or understand about living with diabetes. What are some of the things you wish your doctors knew about diabetes and the daily task of living with the illness?
The responses range from issues of doctors not spending enough time with PWDs, giving incorrect information, doctors believing the information we gather about our diabetes is solely for their use (and not ours!), and having poor bedside (or examination room) manners.

I switched birth controls last week to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. A birth control pill I'd been on back in 2007 with no issues. It was a much needed switch since the Seasonique was giving me horrible nausea and had caused breakthrough bleeding.
Unfortunately, I've totally messed up my hormones now I believe. Because even after switching, I'm still getting breakthrough bleeding. And it's much worse than before. Not only is it a different kind of bleed (less spotty, more like a normal period), but I'm having pretty severe cramps on a regular basis.
This is day 21 of the breakthrough bleeding. And I thought at day 11, I was done. But now, I'm so incredibly annoyed and frustrated that I can't even put it into words. All I want is to go back in time and not take the Seasonique. Or at least not without getting a period.

Plus I've been dealing with the medical stress that comes with changing treatments and making important decisions. All that added up to leave me with averages like 84 and 69 (over six hours of riding in the 60's).
So Saturday morning, I dropped the Lantus back to my original dose (14 units in the morning and 15 units in the evening). I'm still having a few lows (more than the week of highs), but I'm also seeing a mix of highs in there. Sadly, those highs are my own doing.

Diabetes is sometimes the best way to get out of things. It really can be an easy excuse in times of "emergency (parties, dates, movie hunger)." (READ MORE)
