As a part of Diabetes Awareness Month, today is apparently D-Blog Day. On this day in 1944, diabetes bloggers stormed the beach at Normandy and made the world safe for democracy. Or something like that; I should go look it up.
Anyway, to commemorate the occasion, diabetes bloggers have been asked to unite on a single topic. This year, that topic is "Six things you want people to know about diabetes". So here we go.

Things are better today. I appreciated the comments I got on my “What the F?” post. I agree, yeah sometimes I do probably think things to death. And yes, we all have “those days” from time to time- diabetes or no diabetes. Like I said, writing those posts in my “diary” (blog) made me feel much better. I said that it was good to see my diary again … and I meant it.
I also meant what I said about my martial arts and my health and being thankful for having the physical abilities that I am graced with. I try and maintain that positive outlook all the time.
With that being said and put aside for the time being, I would like to talk about a few other things today. I would really like to hear from you guys. If you don’t have the ability to comment, you should really see about becoming a member of dlife. We would love to have you contribute your two cents in the comment section below. (READ MORE)

As a young twenty-something, I'm very in tune with my inner Facebook(er). So I've noticed the trend of posting 25 random things about yourself, although I haven't quite given into it yet. However, I decided after this 25 random things post to create my own 25 random diabetes things.
So here's my 25 Random Things About My Life With Diabetes:
1. Diabetes is sometimes the best thing that's happened to me.
2. It's also often the worst.
3. I rarely follow any type of diabetes diet, although I'm sure it'd help my control.

There's been some debate over here on whether or not "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music is a holiday song or not. I'm going ahead and calling it a holiday song because as far as ideas go this year, it's all I got.
As you know, nothing screams Christmas like turning a happy Julie Andrews song into a depressing song about children struggling with type 1 diabetes.
And for the record, a spoonful of sugar might help the medicine go down, but it will make for one hellish night for many of us with kids that have diabetes. It's bad enough that our kid has some sort of virus that is making his blood sugars wildly high. Now you want to compound the situation with pure sugar on a spoon? Come on, Julie!

This post started as Ten Things I Want Right Now. Overnight, it grew an additional thing I find myself wanting! It's honestly just me reverting to a list because work is incredibly busy right now and I don't have the time (or really, the energy) to write a real-live post tonight.
So... Eleven Things.
1) Superpower. Specifically, the power to mend. I think even considering superpowers is dangerous, because most people don’t think about the consequences and tough decisions that come along with them (ie: what things should just NOT be mended?). But yeah, the power to mend would be just about perfect right now.
2) A cupcake. I would really love a white cupcake with white frosting right now. But what seem to be gluten issues make that rather impossible.

It really is the little things in life that make everything worthwhile. It's a productive day at work or an awesome fasting number. It's the fact that payday is tomorrow or a movie with the boyfriend.
Sometimes I have to take a moment and remind myself of all these tiny things that make my life great and worth living. It's so easy to get pulled under with all the negativity around you. The news, work, and other people's problems. It's easy to get pulled under with my own negativity about diabetes or PCOS or whatever it is.
Today, I'm taking a moment to remind myself of these little things in my life and the moments that make me stop and smile:

Another question that came up in last weeks DSMA chat on Twitter asked “What 3 things have you learned about self-care from the different types of diabetes?”
I began my responses to that question by saying that “I've learned more about self care from T1s than I have from anyone else.” A lot of the knowledge that I possess about this disease and how to live with it has come from conversations with and reading the blogs of people with type 1 diabetes.
Then I went on to list 3 things that I’ve learned; the first being that diabetes doesn't discriminate. It doesn’t matter who you are, how old you are, how much you weigh, or what color your skin is; Diabetes can happen to you.

I made a note on my calendar to call Dr. S today about the bloodwork I had done last week. His nurse told me it may be a week or two before I got results and that I could call any time to see if they were in.
I got impatient (go figure!) and called yesterday. After going through automated phone Hell, I got to the voice mail of the nurse. Her mailbox said feel free to leave a message, but be aware that it may take me 72 hours to get back to you. *sigh*
So I left a message fully expecting NOT to hear from her any time soon. I considered calling again today, but even though I'm impatient I'm not a pest. Well, maybe sometimes.
