It's hard to believe that we are already a week into the New Year. I feel like I haven't accomplished anything for being one week closer to 2010. I finally made my resolutions last night, but haven't taken any steps to obtaining them. Despite my laziness, here they are:
1) Exercise more: I'm starting out with walking/jogging two days a week, specifically Mondays and Wednesdays since things are slower paced then. I want to build up to three, four, and five times a week, but I don't want to overload myself.

I dropped into a local fast food joint for none other then fast food. It is an awful habit but since I always seem to be running around somewhere, fast food is the choice for me.
After ordering my food I walked over to the soda fountain to fill up my "biggest size you have" cup.
Let me explain that. I once asked for a 'Jumbo" soda and I got a large. I asked, "don't you have a size bigger than large?" And the worker said, "Yeah it's a 'Super Quencher'" I replied, "well yeah I wanted a "Jumbo" size which means the biggest size you have!" He said, "You have to say 'Super Quencher.'" I told him that I feel stupid saying that so I just took the large and left. Now back to the story.

I got my blood work results in the mail last week. All the usual suspects...kidneys, CBC, liver function, thyroid...came back within normal ranges. But my A1c was totally off the charts.
Back in July, it clocked in at 7.2%. I wasn't surprised by that because I'd switched from the pump to Lantus and had a few bumps along the way. I was also struggling with getting my exercise numbers into a decent range. So 7.2% was good, all things considered.
But now, my A1c has jumped to a whopping 8.6%. It hasn't been that high since 2007 when I wasn't taking care of my diabetes at all in the midst of college and living on my own. I have to say that this result totally shocked me. I want to say that something is off, something has to be off!

Everyone needs to take a personal day every now and then. At least that's how I feel. Lately, It seems like I have been running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I have been putting in some long days of landscaping work, I just returned from a weekend trip to Omaha, and my girlfriend is in the process of getting a job back in her home state. And needless to say, all of the chaos and daily schedule changes have my blood sugars going a little crazy. (READ MORE)

This week is my first week at the new job without 12 hour training days and mental overload on the learning end. I'm struggling to find balance between a typical 40 hour work week at a high intensity job and keeping on top of everything else in my life. Like relationships, food choices, diabetes, yoga, the cat, and doing the things I love to do (i.e. reading, watching crime shows, blogging). Life seems too hectic right now.
My normal day starts around 7am. I get ready for work, test my blood sugar for the only confirmed "this is happening" time of day, eat, and make the drive to work. Work varies greatly by day. Sometimes I'm sitting in the courthouse for hours learning cases or working with volunteers. Sometimes I'm in the office picking up on the last training tidbits and beginning the transition from the former Supervisor to me. I never eat lunch at the same time. I never leave work at the same time.

Maybe I was expecting some sort of Christmas miracle or something but yesterday I was completely out of control.
We had our Christmas Breakfast at my unofficially adopted sister Candee's house. She was up early brewing coffee, scrambling eggs, frying bacon and sausage, and slicing up coffee cake and other breakfasty pastries so we could all dig in when we got there. (READ MORE)
