Three days, or until the insulin is all used up - that is how long an OmniPod is to be worn for. Before pumping, I was unsure if the scheduled three day replacement interval was going to be a nuisance. I even pondered the idea of trying to sneak in an extra day on the pods- so long as there was enough insulin stowed away in them. Well, that notion, along with a little of my patience, consistently scurries away when I near the end of a pod cycle, and the three day itch sets in. (READ MORE)

Just recently I had a talk with myself. I told myself that being a diabetic is a/my full-time job. That is how I choose to look at it sometimes. (READ MORE)

I knew I was getting close to the banquet room for the JDRF annual meeting when I spotted a used ACCU-CHEK test strip on the carpet like a breadcrumb in the forest.

I was reluctant to go; reluctant to make the commitment. As it is, there are not enough hours in the day.

Walking through the doors was sort of surreal. It was like a plumbers' convention. Only they weren't plumbers. I snaked my way around the room looking for a place to sit, taking in the throng of diabetes chatter as the people talked shop.

Snippets of conversations zipped into my ears and blended into others.

"So I says, honey, you got to get a freakin' pump!" coming from one table.

"You get ketones?" from another table.

I will not be walking in this Sunday's Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes.

I will not be walking in costume.

I will not be walking out of costume.

I will not be walking.

I will be running... the New York City Marathon.

Note that I did not say "running in the Marathon", but "running the Marathon".

ADM logo -- sockmonkette In today's environment of cheap-to-the-patient pills that can cure almost anything from a hangnail to cancer, it's sometimes difficult to make significant and often-difficult lifestyle changes on account of a disease or a medical condition. Rarely is this more evident than in the public appearance of Type 2 diabetes.

It seems like lately I've felt more abnormal than ever before in my life. I've always known I wasn't like the rest of the world. I have always been the different kid, the one who had to eat different food, the one who did shots all the time. I thought that I wouldn't feel so different when I got older. I figured that with time diabetes would be just a part of my life like being a brunette or having freckles. Now I'm getting older and diabetes is completely ingrained in me, but I still feel different. (READ MORE)

I walked into my local Whole Foods Body store with the best of intentions. I wanted just one item. I didn't know what brand to buy, but I had a general idea of what I was looking for. When the salesperson said the magic words, "What can I help you find today," I should have run far away. Instead, we started a dialog that left me leaving the store with a full bag and an empty wallet. (READ MORE)

I met Marvin over a year and a half ago in both our senior years of college. I wasn't looking for a serious relationship, more just a companion to spend Friday nights out on dates until I graduated in May. From our first moments sitting in Starbucks and learning all about each other, I think something told me it would be different with him.

I remember the next day texting a few times back and forth. He wanted to set up a date...soon. And I was playing it cool. I didn't want to fall head over heels, so why did I need to see this guy every night of the week? I knew exactly what I was looking for and a better half wasn't it.

Why is it so hard to get back on track after you fall off the diet wagon? Each day, I start out with good intentions, but somewhere along the line, my eating has gone straight to pot.
I think it started almost a month ago now, right after getting fasting bloodwork done at my endo's office. I "celebrated" with a breakfast at McDonald's, something I'd been craving for a while. Then I had a few run-ins with a Chick-Fil-A sandwich, waffle fries (dipped in mayo) and cole slaw.
After that was the Snickerdoodle incident (which I blamed on my friend Lizzy for introducing me to the sweet, slightly cinnamon flavored, sugar cookies at Whole Foods). Following closely on its heels was the chocolate chip cookie catastrophe. Now I'm in the midst of a full-blown cupcake bender.
Who do I think I am? What in the world makes me think I can eat these foods without consequences? (READ MORE)

My mind is currently in a million places at the moment. I'm in the middle of a tough decision and waiting game. I'm slightly stressed. And I'm closely watching how my Lantus change is affecting my numbers. So I'm going to take the easy way out and bullet point what's on my mind.
