Logging. It is something every diabetic should do. It is important in terms of identifying patterns and making decisions about dosing - and it is vital to figuring out when you need to be paying more attention and where your problem areas are in the course of a day. I remember the bad old days of handwritten logbooks. They were cumbersome and not at all useful, even when they were kept up and brought to the doctor. Technology has come a long way and there are many great tools available for logging everything we need to be tracking. But, for me at least, logging is still an excruciating task. (READ MORE)

Is it any wonder that insulin is so difficult to manage?  It is, after all, a young drug, and one that has seen rapid and extraordinary changes in formulation and delivery in the ninety years since discovery.

Many vaccines, antibiotics, antiseptics, antihistamines, and anesthetics were invented in the 300 years before insulin first made its appearance on the scene.  People were flying, driving cars, listening to radios, riding escalators, vacuuming their carpets, talking on telephones, and enjoying air conditioners before the invention of insulin.

Am I a man, or even a person- or just a type with an age? Should I be mad at what they think-what kind of war should I wage?
"You can overcome diabetes and make it part of your past" But as an autoimmune, I declare that their thinking should not last!
"Check your blood sugar; you seem to be having a bad day" Must it always be related to diabetes in every way?

Getting your kid pumped up about a pump is an odd thing. I mean, it is still a medical device after all - and a rather crude one at that. It’s not a box of Star Wars Legos. That’s for sure.

And the way Charlie runs away from the thing on site change day, you’d think I’m asking him to choose which bully he’d like to strap on 24/7.

Still, I do it anyway, thankful that he thinks getting a new pump is cool. The alternative would suck. I call Charlie over to look at the new pump he’ll be getting on the computer screen.

"Charlie! Wanna see your new pump??? Ooh! These are cool. I like the color "smoke." What do you think?"

My enthusiasm is possibly too over the top.

He chooses "smoke" and walks away, not nearly as into it as I thought he’d be.
