I'll admit it. I'm a big fan of cheap wine. Yummy. Give me some Boones Farm Strawberry Zinfandel on a hot summer night, and I'll get my buzz on - and get it on good. And I used to, back in the day, enjoy a nice cigarette (or ten) with my wine. Even now, every so often, I'll get a craving for a cigarette. Thankfully, the urge is usually cured by the smell of a heavy smoker passing by and occasionally cured by a simple, single drag on another person's gross-stick. (READ MORE)

Gene Rayburn with his long 1970s microphone and his swank three-piece suits. I imagine he stunk of cigarettes and scotch as he'd lean into the contestants, awaiting their dirty answers. Raunchy double-entendres from Charles Nelson Reilly and an irresistibly funky theme song. It was smutty stuff for sure, but I loved Match Game back in the day.
It's been a while since we've played some diabetes fun 'n games. Last year's Fantasy Diabetes League (FDL) brought out the competitive spirit of the online diabetes community and the diabetes version of Mad Libs was a lot of fun.

19 months ago today I quit smoking. That's about 11,500 cigarettes that I have NOT smoked if I had continued at the same rate. I got a lot of help at QuitNet, another great, supportive, free site.
I still crave them sometimes. My boss hasn't had a cigarette in over 20 years and he still wants one occasionally too. I've accepted I will just have to live with that.
This is the 25th time I quit smoking. I started my quest for freedom from nicotine 1/1/2000. In some ways that thrills me, because I kept working on smoking cessation (albeit not continuously) until it stuck. The "stick-to-it-iveness" my mother always wanted me to have. On the other hand, it's a rather pathetic statistic.
When I realized about a year ago that this was the quit that would stick, I felt like I could accomplish anything. I felt strong, confident and wonderful about my goals. (READ MORE)

Have you seen this - the Glucophone? It's a cell phone and glucometer all in one. Holy digital dynamite, Batman!
The website says "A text message of the results can be transmitted to anyone the patient authorizes enabling real-time remote monitoring. The GlucoPhone helps minimize the daily hassles associated with the treatment of the disease...."
They seem to be thinking about your doctor or your CDE getting the blood test results, which might be good sometimes. (READ MORE)

Today is Kick Butts Day. It's a day when thousands of youth across the nation take on Big Tobacco to stop kids from even starting to smoke. This is the 13th year of the event.
I can tell you that when I first started smoking I was a Freshman in high School. My stepdad was a chain smoker. I used to say, "He uses one match a day for his first one then lights the next one off of the last one." That is what it was like. (READ MORE)

OK, I really don't hate Halloween. In fact, I really like the "holiday". I love to see well-done costumes and to watch my children have so much fun gathering all that candy and showing off their costumes. It's fun to watch them have fun. Even my office-mates enjoy the black-and-orange season. This morning we all walked downstairs to see the parade of three-year-old preschoolers come through in their costumes while trick-or-treating at the downtown businesses. We oohed and aahhed at the pirate, the princess, the flower and the pilot. (READ MORE)
