Not to be a weenie or anything, but my arm still hurts from getting my blood work done yesterday for my bi-annual appointment with my endocronoligist. Let's be honest, DO THEY REALLY HAVE TO USE A SYRINGE THAT BIG?! That thing is like a one of those straws that you get with your tropical-punch-flavored Capri Sun. You know, the one where you have to pierce through the surface, like your driving a stake through a vampire's heart, just so you can get to the juice! I was thinking maybe they could use one of my little 3/10 cc "short needles". I have PLENTY to spare and I can hardly feel those, except when I hit too much muscle or even better, a nerve :).

I guess maybe I am just a little bitter about the whole visit to the hospital yesterday.

In the diabetes clinic that I go to, they have this one lady that works behind the desk. I swear, she is one of the most unhappy people that I have ever met. We have all had our dealings with these type of people. People who just seem like they are mad at the world. The kind of person that would sue after spilling hot coffee on their lap. Anyway, when I went into the clinic, she informed me that I would need to go and do the whole "pee in the cup" routine. And after that I would need to go and get my blood work done. But just before I ventured into the bathroom, she exclaimed, "you did fast didn't you?". "Fast?", I responded with a hint of annoyance in my voice. "Yeah" she said, "the doctor wants this one to be a fasting blood and urine". Me: "OHH?, well, someone failed to mention that to me when I called to make the appointment the other day". Angry at world woman: "Well it wasn't me because I always make sure to tell people when they call", she continues, "yeah, your not supposed to have any food or drink, not even water, for 10 to 12 hours before".

Anyway, we continue to out-do one another with sarcastic remarks and serious eye contact. Eventually I leave after we somehow manage to agree that I will come back in the morning after I have fasted without food or drink "NOT EVEN WATER".

So the next morning I arrive thirsty, hungry and borderline low, only to hear from the woman who is drawing my blood, with the capri-sun needle/straw, "Ohh, well you can have water. That doesn't make any difference at all".

My face turned bright red and I thought, Damn! Mad at World Woman won again! I'll be ready next time....

Your so funny, yes I know exactly the type of person your taking about. Its like they're mad at the world and get some sick pleasure from screwing with you...lol.
As for the needle stick, I always ask for the "butterfly needle" it's tiny and makes a huge difference. They can never get blood from me using the bigger ones and these feel much better...not good but better. :)
