I hate to admit this, but I'll risk being unpopular and just say how I feel. I'm getting pretty sick of the Jonas brothers. It's like they are everywhere. In my Us Weekly, in Parenting magazine, on the Target commercials and now here on dLife.
I'm not sure exactly why I find them so annoying. It could be that we're from the same community. One of them went to my husband's alma mater, and my husband's cousins went to church where their dad was a pastor. I've been to the church too, and saw their dad preach and sing there (quite moving, I might add) long before they became famous.
It could just be the typical jealousy that occurs when someone local makes it big. Kind of like the way I felt about Trixter when I was in high school. (Kudos if you know what I'm talking about...you are as old as I am, wink, wink.) I've heard local kids around here call the Jonas Brothers, the Bogus Brothers. Maybe it's rubbing off on me too.
Or maybe it's that Nick has diabetes too. At first, I remember feeling a sort of camaraderie with him, as I do with all my dPeers. Now that cute little curly haired Nick is the new Bayer spokesman for diabetes, I realize maybe the ubiquitous Jonas Brothers are a constant reminder of my own disease.

Diabetic Recipes

Hi, I am new to dLife, and I am so thrilled to have found this site! My daughter has type 1 diabetes, two years this october and she is eleven. I agree that some of these teen stars can become more a part of our lives than need be. However, in this case I am greatful for Nick and how brave he is for talking about his diabetes. My daughter came running into the living room one night after seeing him announce that he was a type 1 diabetic. No one in her school or anyone that she knows has dibetes. So to see her be able to relate to someone like Nick Jonas was almost like a blessing. She is more open about her diabetes and she does not feel like she has to hide it anymore. I wish more kids like Nick would be open about their diabetes. We all know that children learn alot from others their age, and if my daughter chooses Nick for her role model because they share a common bond, I couldn't be more happy. This is just my opinion and I respect yours also.
I can see where young people like Nick Jonas would be a wonderful role model for young people. I would imagine that if my daughter were coping with Type 1 diabetes, I would be tickled for her to have someone she felt she could relate to. However, I do see Rebecca's point...Nick's picture is EVERYWHERE! I think it would be great if more companies would utilize regular, every-day people in their ads, etc. I know some of them are...I would just to see more of it. Sure...famous people have diabetes. But so do us not-so-famous people.
I think that it is a good thing that Nick has gone public with his diabetes. I agree that seeing the Jonas Brothers everywhere has become annoying, but I would like to hear Nick share more about how he manages the disease with a very demanding schedule. Any young person who is struggling with diabetes on a day-to-day basis can learn from him.
