I love to write. I love to express my opinions, emotions and thoughts. It's particularly fun to focus on important topics in my life, like my blog here. But sometimes it gets very overwhelming to know that hundreds of people are reading my words.

When I blog, I expose my life to the masses. I put my diabetes on display. I put my views about diabetes on display. And sometimes, those are the hardest things to show the world.

With diabetes, it's very easy to conceal the disease. I look normal. I sound normal. No one knows I'm diabetic unless I let my guard down. And mostly, I don't mind if people know. I feel more people need to know how common this is and how diabetics are walking around looking normal while dealing with it. Otherwise, people will forget that diabetics need a cure.

That being said, blogging about the innermost secrets of my diabetes is another story. Sometimes it's just hard finding the words to convey what I feel. Sometimes I can't find a topic (I'll gladly accept suggestions!). Other times, I feel the topic is simply too in depth to cover every issue/thought the way it deserves. There are times that I know the issue is common, yet still individual enough where others might not understand. Sometimes I feel that my blog is completely my place to vent and be myself without worrying about the thoughts of others.

I'm not saying that my blog gives me permission to ignore the emotions/thoughts of others. But I am saying that this is MY personal blog. It is not a doctor's office. I'm not looking for a medical opinion (practical suggestions from other diabetics are always welcome though). It's not a psychiatrists' couch. I don’t need a psych evaluation (well...maybe). It's not a debate. I'm not wanting to brainwash my audience.

It's completely an open place for me to write how I feel about an issue in my life. Moreover, it's an open place where those reading understand and fully experience aspects of this issue. The other important point of my blog is to inform those who do not and cannot understand the physical, emotional and spiritual issues of diabetes. My blog is a way to clear my mind, develop support from the experienced and change the viewpoint of the inexperienced.
