For a while there, I was really starting to think Charlie was going to use his super diabetes powers to keep the flu at bay. I was hoping for some irony. Maybe the kid with D would be the only one in the household left standing.

No such luck. Charlie is on day two of what has become known as "The Great Ass Whoopin' of 2008." Or the somber yet simple, "March Sadness." I estimate that we'll see the light at the end of the tunnel by sometime in July.

Now Charlie has even more numbers surrounding him. And this has me confused.

Susanne tells me he's 102 and I think, wow! Pretty good considering he has the flu. Unfortunately she's referring to his body temperature and not his blood sugar. "Oh, blood sugar? You don't want to know that," she says.

They said it couldn't be done. But I have escaped the sweet lavender confines of my daughter's bedroom to bring you even more diabetes fun and games. Some may call it a diabolically cheesy way of boosting my blog post quota. Some may say I'm just in it for the money. Perhaps for a down payment on my very own Zac Efron poster. Me? I'd call it ... well, I'd, uh, sort of agree. After this batch, I have one more (Penny's) to share with you, but I promise to cool it for a while with the Mad Libs after that. Thanks again to those who participated. Wonderful words!

Treating Low Blood Sugars

From robertdx:

For people with diabetes, low blood sugar is very thin business. There are many symptoms of hypoglycemia. You may feel shiny and hollow and your vision may become bright. Your left foot may be shaky and your skin color may turn sky blue. It's likely you'll want to just run on the couch until you feel better. You may also feel Diet Coke pouring from your liver profusely. If not treated immediately, you could lose your eye glasses or slip into a library. You must drive your blood sugar right away using a transmitter. Blood sugar below 9 is considered low. If you're low, you must eat blueberry pie with at least 7 million carbohydrates, based on your security guard's recommendations. If you're unable to eat or drink, you may need to squirt some scrambled eggs into your heart. To prevent lows, people with diabetes should always remember to keep peanut butter in their pockets at all times or conveniently located in Florida. Injecting the right amount of oil and accounting for any extra shaving will help keep those large low blood sugars away.

From angulargyrus:

For people with diabetes, low blood sugar is very rotund business. There are many symptoms of hypoglycemia. You may feel cracked and stinky and your vision may become precious. Your lip may be shaky and your skin color may turn brown. It's likely you'll want to just ululate on the couch until you feel better. You may also feel Tang pouring from your eyelid profusely. If not treated immediately, you could lose your worm or slip into a circuit. You must bounce your blood sugar right away using a generator. Blood sugar below one-third is considered low. If you're low, you must eat haggis with at least 666 carbohydrates, based on your zoologist's recommendations. If you're unable to eat or drink, you may need to squirt some capers into your spleen. To prevent lows, people with diabetes should always remember to keep lox in their pockets at all times or conveniently located in Soho. Injecting the right amount of ink and accounting for any extra rolling will help keep those broad low blood sugars away.

From Kim:

For people with diabetes, low blood sugar is very happy business. There are many symptoms of hypoglycemia. You may feel gloomy and sunny and your vision may become grey. Your abdomen may be shaky and your skin color may turn purple. It's likely you'll want to just run on the couch until you feel better. You may also feel orange juice pouring from your bicep profusely. If not treated immediately, you could lose your bicycle or slip into a tricycle. You must pedal your blood sugar right away using a thresher. Blood sugar below 12 is considered low. If you're low, you must eat avocado with at least 8 carbohydrates, based on your Mary Kay sales rep's recommendations. If you're unable to eat or drink, you may need to squirt some Easter candy into your big toe. To prevent lows, people with diabetes should always remember to keep tortillas in their pockets at all times or conveniently located in Colorado. Injecting the right amount of water and accounting for any extra injecting will help keep those warm low blood sugars away.
