What a difference a week makes. Despite a wicked sweet tooth coming off the heels of a junk-food bender, my blood sugar levels have remained in the healthy range for a full week now.

I'm amazed at how well Glyburide is working for me. I'm currently taking 1.25 mg at breakfast, which is carrying me through the whole day. No carb counting or majorly restricting carbs, no estimating doses, no math. I just check my blood sugar before meals. It's nice to finally be back in the zone, so to speak.

The downside is have had a few lows. I'm not sure why its happening, but I do know I have to start being more consistent with my diet. Am I going low because I ate junk so my newly-jumpstarted pancreas overcompensated, stimulating the desire for more junk?

(It's pretty amazing how I can seem to blame my dietary shortcomings on diabetes, isn't it? First, high blood sugar was making me eat like a horse, now low blood sugar is the cause.)

I'm still not sure how I feel about it the new meds. On one hand, its great that I don't have to really think much about it anymore. One little pill a day and my blood sugar is pretty much normal. On the other hand, who knows for sure what this little pill is really doing to me. I'm kind of baffled by how it works, and how it works so well. I guess I feel like it's too easy, there has to be a catch.

For years, I had to watch every morsel I ate, whether it was to avoid high blood sugar or to know how much insulin I needed to take. Now it's almost like I can eat whatever I want without blood sugar consequences. It's like I have some kind of new superpower and I haven't yet decided whether to use it for good or evil.

Believe me, deep down, I know I need to use it for good. I should be able to follow the plan my dietitian gave me or the Weight Watchers plan.
