My two little girls now have a stomach bug. I've been going nuts, washing everything in hot water, in an attempt to keep Olivia from catching it.

It's horrible when the little girls get sick. Boo, who is three, is ok about it - she thinks it's pretty funny when she pukes (strange, strange girl) but The Bug is miserable. She doesn't get it and she feels terrible. I don't much enjoy it, either. Cleaning up puke is enough to make me hurl, too.

Dealing with real people sickness on top of diabetes, though, really sends me around the bend. It's easy enough to clean up pukey babies but dealing with Olivia's diabetes when she's puking is a little more challenging.

Her basal rates need to be tested, I think, because the last couple of times she got sick, her blood sugars would creep up instead of bottoming out, as you'd expect when you can't keep anything in your stomach. I hadn't dialed back her basal rates on Monday, when she was sick, but she was still climbing. I bolused her more than I would have for the highs, especially once it was evident they weren't coming down.

Until we get this stomach issue under control, though, I'm hesitant to mess with her basals too much. She has an endo appointment in two weeks and I'm going to bring up this stomach thing again. In the past, they've kind of blown it off and I wasn't pushy enough about it, but this time, I'm going to insist that they address it. She's having blood work done next week. I don't know if the results will be in in time for the endo appointment, but either way, I'm going to have her pediatrician and her endo discuss this. It can't be normal to feel this sick all the time.

The stomach bugs have been unusually aggressive and tenacious this year. Hopefully Olivia can at least keep Gatorade down if she gets nauseated...

Poor kids. I hope they're all better soon!

I just got over the stomach bug myself and it was horrible, worst I ever had. It was actually pretty scary because I was getting short of breathe and my heart was pounding hard. The shakes, sweats, and shivers didn't help much either.
